Xbox PC app says there's an error installing Hitman 3, but you CAN play it from the files

Win 10/11, PC, GamePass

I installed GamePass Hitman 3 on the 20th and it completed then gave an error with no help after installing. Only option is to "retry" and that gives the same error,

Error code: 0x800706b5

I restarted the app and it said it was playable.

Later that day I get the upgrade to Win 11.

On the 21st it downloads the whole game again without me asking, and gives the same error and won't let me launch through the Xbox App.

Here's the beans: if you go to the install location and open Launcher.exe, it launches fine and you can play the full game.

Given that it is playable, I believe the prerequisites are failing to install. My Win 11 is up to date (though it was Win 10 on the 20th) and windows update works completely fine. Google results for that error code refer to win updates.

I have the same problem but I can't start it

and my error code is : 0x87e00017

As i mentioned, not all games will have the error, your drives have never been used to install games from Xbox app so you need to copy the file from a different Pc

I had downloaded files on external harddisk from another computer and then copied files to xbox games in C drive....

This is likely the reason why. PC games on the Xbox App have additional protections that prevents files being used from a different install of the game on another computer. If you want to play this on your PC, you need to download the game from the Xbox App directly to your PC.

Its only happening with Hitman trilogy (it will say hitman 3 but I have trilogy installed)

I cant send video footage as it doesnt want me to it just send me to the steam page when i click launch on the xbox app

I assume you are trying to remote install a game from your Xbox app on PC. Usually when it fails to install it will show you an error below the install button.

Can you open Store app on your PC and search for the game there and try to install from there? Also, try restarting your PC.
