Xbox party failing to join

For us to isolate the issue, please run a network test first on your console.

Press the Xbox button to open the guide.
Select Profile & system > Settings > General > Network settings.
Select Test network connection.
Please also test multiplayer and NAT type.

You could also try to power cycle your console. Press and hold Xbox's power button for 10 sec. Unplug the power supply for 30 sec. Plug it back in and turn it on again.

You see the following error code and message when you try to start or join a party on Xbox One:

0x89231806

Your network settings block the Party Chat

This may mean that the Internet connection between your Xbox console and the other party members is failing. This often happens because of incompatible Network Address Translation (NAT) types.

Solution

To resolve this problem, you and the friend whose party you're trying to join should use the Xbox One Multiplayer Game Solution.

Unfortunately I'm having the same problem. It works 10% of the time, but fails to let other "turn on" party chat. I want to know WHY we have to "turn on" party chat when we join a party with friends... Shouldn't it automatically be on?

If all else fails you have a different party host or have another person join with your friends and usually you will then be able to connect.
