    Xbox Party Chat / Xbox One Party / Private Chat


    I'm a bit frustrated with the current state of "parties" across multiple platforms. I have had an issue with Party Chat on the Xbox One where I cannot join a party with specific individuals. When they join a party when I'm on Xbox One the rest of the party can carry on as normal, but I can no longer speak or hear the party. Still shows I'm in the party, but does not register any input when I talk as it would normally do to show voice activity. This is not a problem on Windows 10 Game Bar, which I've created a Frankenstein configuration of my Astro A50s connected to the Xbox via optical and my PC via USB to join parties without fear of having party chat issues described above.

    That said, it's a confusing landscape on Windows 10. First is the Console Companion App, which seems to have just, what I will call Xbox One Parties. I haven't used it myself because I have been using the Game Bar. The Game Bar seems to have three different options for chat? It has the option to chat, private chat, and parties. I believe the "parties" in Game Bar are the Xbox One parties found on Xbox One and the Console Companion App, but with fewer controls (cannot make these parties invite only), but then there are Chats and Private Chats.

    I'm curious if anyone can unravel the differences, if one is planned to be the standard for the Series X and Xbox One Parties are depreciated with last gen? Anyone else have similar frustrations or stories about the undocumented (from what I can find) difference between chats/private chats/parties?

    Party or private chat?

    On the Xbox One, there's only party chat, but you can invite your friend and then lock it, so it effectively becomes a private chat. ;)

    I want to know how you all can chat ban someone when they are in a private chat playing bo6? Also how do you get chat banned when you don't have a headset hooked up to the controller?

    private chats are monitored too, the reason I NEVER use any chat or party chat on xbox.

    Its sad how much mulitplayer gaming has changed on live over the years!

    For the people moaning about party chart even before party chat xbox already had private chat. I would rather be in private or party chat talking to people i know than listening to randomers there is nothing wrong with party chat. i think its a good feature.
    i think there are alot of people that would rather speak on the head set if it is friends or fam they are speaking to..

    Party chat and private chat

    Hey there,

    Party chat is where you can have multiple people in a chat, talking, at the same time. Private chat is where it is only you and one other person. This makes it more private for you and the other person as you can not have more then two people in the chat.
    This will be between you and a friend only.

    As for why this feature is not supported on the Xbox One. In short, I don't know. This could be because of how many people used the feature or how the feature worked. If you would like this feature on Xbox One, then you can make a suggestion on the Xbox

    Party chat is broken on my end I can't leave a party once I join and it just says attempting to leave party for an hour straight. I'm just using private chat atm but I would love to not have to sign out or reset my Xbox to use party chat again.
