Xbox OS Preview update failed cause complete corruption

Sounds like your console is enrolled in the Delta Xbox Insiders preview. If so, you should check the Xbox Insider Forum on Reddit.

The reason you may be getting large 2GB updates is you missed a preview update and the console will download the complete updated OS specific to the Delta preview.

If your only internet access is a phone hotspot I suggest you unenroll from all Insider previews and return the console to the General release OS for xbox consoles.

For example, my console is enrolled in the Alpha skip ahead preview and I do 3-4 updates to the OS a week. It doesn't take long to use 2GB a week just in OS updates.

Can you actually go into the save file for the game its self and look for any corrupted files in there directly ( will show as a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark in it) if so delete that then relaunch the game. Most cases the update fails due to
this corrupted/failed update causing any further update attempts to fail.

With that it is hard to say what caused the OS to may become corrupt. Most likely nothing you have done. Most common reason is while updating there was something that caused the update to become corrupt or not install correctly. As there was an update recently
this could be what has happened.

The console needs to be unenrolled from any preview before attempting a OSU.

When the console is unenrolled the General Availability OS is installed.

If it fails to install the GA OS it will need a Factory reset.

If a Factory reset fails, the console needs to be repaired.

Change the Insider preview ring your console is enrolled in.

According to the link provided above the last update for General Availability was in July.

If your console is completely turned off and power removed, your console will miss the regular system updates for the preview, usually about 600-700 MB. If you miss a preview update and another is released the complete OS system, about 4.5 GB, will need to be downloaded to ensure the console has the latest update for that preview ring.

I'm in Alpha Skip Ahead preview and manually do at least 3 updates a week.

The other preview rings have less updates each week and the Omega ring has the least.

If you don't like the constant updates to the System OS it may be to your advantage to unenroll the console from the Insiders program.
