Xbox Originals on the Xbox 360 require a non existant update and are now unplayable.

Xbox Originals (OG Xbox games bought digitally through the Xbox Live marketplace for the Xbox 360) can no longer be played because they require an update that cannot be found. Tested with Halo CE and Grand Theft Auto San Andreas.

I've tried deleting and reinstalling the game.

I've also tried deleting the system cache.

This is not an Internet connection issue on my end.

1. Dashboard: 2.0.17559.0

2. I've tried both the digital version and the disc version. Neither work.

3. I do not have access to a spare external hard drive.

The "missing emulation software" theory seems the most plausible.

There was a time when the 360 data transfer cables would lead to the drive being formatted if the cable was not the official cable from Microsoft. The formatted drives lost the emulation software that was preinstalled to them and there was never a way to redownload the firmware for the drives. By any chance, are you completely certain that the cable that you used back in 2014 was in fact an official cable that did not end up formatting your drive?

Just curious if you had ever formatted the hard drive using a PC or any other way other than through the console itself?

This does not work. As I said, this is not an Internet connection issue on my end. I even plugged in my Ethernet cable. Still not working.
