xBox OneS controller only powers on via USB

I have a 2nd Generation One controller (bluetooth) that just started acting weird. It was working normally for a while, but now it won't turn on by just pressing the button. If I plug it into a USB port, it'll power on and work normally, wireless or wired.
To clarify, once it powers on via USB I can unplug it works fine until it powers off.

After it powers off, I am unable to power it on via the (X) button, it'll ONLY power on when plugged into USB. I've tried fresh batteries, just in case, to no avail to wake it. It runs fine on batteries once it's powered up, it's just getting it to wake up
that's the issue.

Is this a known issue?

I recommend checking for a controller update this is separate from a system update

Sadly, this guide doesn't give any resolution except "go spend another $65 on a new controller", which isn't very helpful

I tried checking for an update using both my windows 10 pc as well as my xbox one, and both state that the unit is up to date

For right now the work around is to plug it into USB (even though I'm using batteries) just to power it on, since it works fully after I power it on.

Olá, parece um problema com o botão de seu controle, o botão(x) funciona normal com o controle ligado? pode estar relacionado apenas no momento de ligar o controle, quando ligar o controle. experimente atualiza-lo pelo app "acessórios xbox" em seu console.
pode ser um Bug, caso não resolva sugiro que siga os links abaixo.

I have one of my controllers that got updated to this release, and now is having some strange issues. Right now the controller will not power on via the Xbox button. If I power it on via USB, then it functions normally in both wired and wireless mode.

This is my only controller on this release, and the only one exhibiting this issue. Hopefully there will be a patch that resolves some of the strange mapping issues?
