Xbox One X Unable to Factory Reset - Error code 102 - Trapped in Infinite Loop

Hello,

I have seen this issue through the forums throughout the years and NO ONE has been able to answer this question ever since I first saw it in 2019. I am hoping in 2023 someone has come across this and has an answer besides "Send it to Microsoft for Repair" because unfortunately my Xbox finally experienced it...

The Issue:

The Xbox One X is slow. It doesn't update games, it stops the update at a certain point. Sometimes it doesn't turn on and instead defaults to the Error Code 102 screen. No matter the number of restarts, hard or soft, the Xbox continues to run slow or not at all.

The Deeper Issue:

The biggest problem here is that YOU CANNOT DO A FACTORY RESET by USB or by pressing the button. IF you attempt to initiate a factory reset via the settings menu, the console restarts and then brings up the error 102 menu. IF you then try to initiate a factory reset via the Error troubleshooting menu, it once again restarts the console and brings the menu up again. Thus trapping you in an endless loop of trying to factory reset. This is the crux of the problem as you cannot wipe the Xbox to start fresh. So no please don't recommend any sort of soft reboot method as they ALL have been tried on the console.

So again, haven't seen a conclusive answer to the question over the years on ANY thread, and I researched them all so no need to link a thread that has inconclusive answers to this problem either. If someone was able to solve this in the past without turning the Xbox in to the Texas hardware center, any help would be appreciated. If that is the only answer to this problem, then at least throw that on this thread so we can stop having 10+ threads on this issue with chains of answers that go no where.

I'm going to give you two procedures, I don't know if you've tried them, if not I hope it helps.

Follow the steps below to run the Xbox One Startup Troubleshooter to fix the e102 issue on your console.

Make sure the Xbox One is turned off.
Remove the wires from the computer.
Wait a few seconds.
To link and eject the device at the same time, press and hold the link and eject buttons.
Keeping your hands on the buttons, press them to turn it off.
When you hear the startup tone twice, it's ready.
The troubleshooter appears on the screen now.
The eject and bind buttons must be released.
Also, the troubleshooter will ask you to perform some steps to help them diagnose and fix the e102 error.
Essentially, you're wiping the slate clean on your Xbox One by doing this operation.
It is possible to get rid of Xbox One system crash e102 by following these instructions.
However, even if this doesn't work, it indicates that the updates have some glitch during execution or online processing, which is the most likely cause of your problem.
When updates become available, you can download and even install them at your own pace.

Error E102: Offline system update for Xbox One.

Although USB 3.0 is preferred, USB 2.0 can still be used.
Reboot takes place after completing this step.
Wait until the console is ready to start before continuing.
Xbox One system error e102 should no longer be a problem for you.
You may notice that your computer keeps restarting itself from time to time.
You must not be alarmed; this is simply your system making sure everything is in order.
If that doesn't work, you can contact Microsoft Customer Support.

I AM HAVING THE VERY SAME PROBLEM LOGGING INTO MICROSOFT CASUAL GAMES. I GET AN ERROR CODE 102. THERE DOESN'T SEEM TO BE ANYONE AT EITHER X-BOX OR MICROSOFT CASUAL GAMES WORKING TODAY WHO IS MONITORING THIS PROBLEM.

Absolutely having the same issue and am pretty much stuck on the troubleshooting page with the 102 error code.Can't perform any kind of reset or even a complete factory reset.

Tried factory reset, which as you warned me made things even worse - Stay Offline option is gone, so I'm now in infinite update loop with no ability to use the Xbox at all. Will try Microsoft store next weekend.

Soft factory reset. If you are unable to get to settings you can try the
How to reset your Xbox one to factory defaults with a USB drive.
