Xbox One X screen flickers when activating 4K

Hello,

I recently got an Xbox One X and a 4K beamer. At first startup the Xbox noticed this and wanted to change the resolution to 4K, but the picture started flickering and it turned back to Full HD and brought up a message, that something went wrong. When I go
to the settings and want to change it, the same thing happens. But in the menu it shows that everything is 4K compatible. The weirdest thing is that if I start an application that supports 4K like Netflix or Forza Horizon 4 it switches automatically to 4K
and HDR and everything works fine, but then I go back to the start menu it changes back to Full HD.

The Xbox is connected to an amplifier with the HDMI cable out of the box and the beamer is connected to the amplifier with a 10m HDMI cable. I also tried to connect the XBOX directly to the beamer and then I can change the settings to 4K and it works (Edit:
only if I connect it with the cable that came with the Xbox. With the 10m cable I also get the flickering, but it isn't as bad as with the amplifier in between). Could the 10m HDMI cable be the problem? While searching online I found HDMI amplifiers. Could
they help to solve this problem?

Are you using a High speed ARC HDMI cable from amp?

Also, I have only 1 ARC HDMI port on my 4K TV, so make sure you are using the correct port. Refer to user manuals.

With a cable of that length the signal loss will be what is causing the problem. I can not say for sure that an HDMI booster would help as I have no experience with those.

There are hybrid HDMI cables but they are a tad expensive as they are fibre optic.

Try searching for hybrid hdmi cable on your browser. Ruipro are a good brand but again they are not cheap.

For a 10m cable you are looking at over £100. How that compares to a booster I do not know.

Be aware that these cables draw power from both the source and destination devices.

Maybe try the signal booster but that could bring into play a problem if it does not have support for 4K passthrough.

The 10m HDMI cable supports ARC and the beamer only has two HDMI ports which should both support it. I also tried both ports and it was the same result on both.

Hi, so leaving the Amp out of the loop and things working would to me at least have me looking at the Amp rather than anything else. On the other hand you say that if you launch a 4K game or app things work so that could just be a setting in on the Amp itself.

Have you tried each of the four HDMI inputs on your Amp ? It could just be that only one fully supports 4k passthrough.

I'd also check if there's a firmware update for the Amp.

When you connected the projector directly to the Xbox was that with the 10M HDMI cable ?

If you continue to struggle with this issue, is it optional for you to connect the amplifier to the Xbox via optical cable as an alternative?

I had similar issues (though with completely different hardware) with HDMI and moving to optical solved the problem. Though, it was only an ideal solution for me as the Xbox One is the only input device I'm using. If I was using multiple this may not be ideal.
