    Xbox One X - Official Wireless Controller keeps disconnecting from the console


    I have an Xbox One X that I have had since 2019. This console has seen a lot of use but up until the last few months, it's been fine.

    Recently, our controllers have begun to drop connection while we are playing games. It's random and we can't predict when it's going to happen and sometimes it happens just seconds after we pop the batteries out in order to power cycle the controller, sometimes it can take a few minutes, sometimes it can go days without doing it. I've searched and searched for solutions, including updating the firmware of the controller (all of them are), updating the xbox (it is), even resetting the xbox entirely. We're at our wits end with this issue and we can't figure out what it is.

    I can answer any followups for more information as they are asked but my green-blooded, xbox-loving wife is at the point where she's stopped playing fortnite on the xbox and has started on our PS4 because she doesn't have these controller issues.

    Yes, because all the official xbox one controllers are compatible with all xbox one consoles (original, S, S all digital & X) and even with the future Series X. All the xbox one controllers have the wireless protocol, the newer versions of the controller
    have also the bluetooth but it is not used to communicate with the xbox one consoles.

    Hey there x Blashyrkh x,



    Before deleting all of the data on your console, I have a question or two.



    When you tried switching out the power cables on the console, how long did you leave it unplugged for? If you haven't, can you try leaving it unplugged for an extended period. Try overnight.



    Also, is there anything around your console that could be causing a signal interference between your console and controller? Take a look at Solution 3 from our page

    Xbox 360 Wireless Controller disconnects or can't connect    .



    And finally, are you using official Microsoft Xbox 360 wired headset with your console? Third-party wireless headsets can also cause the interference mentioned in Solution 3 above.

    "am I being stupid".... No, everyone has trouble from time to time. But, let me suggest following up with a couple of things, "Connect a wireless
    Xbox One controller to your console    " and "Xbox One Wireless Controller disconnects or can't connect" . Let us know if you continue to have
    issues connecting the controller to your Xbox.
