Xbox One X making a whining noise and ticking even when on standby, but not when turned ...

I bought the gold rush edition of the Xbox One X a week ago and when I plugged it in and turned it on the console began making a faint ticking noise. I didn't think this was a big problem so I decided to wait a week or so to see if it would go away. Now
the console is making both the quiet ticking noise and is buzzing fairly loudly. I know that buzzing is just coil whine but it's buzzing at a very high volume which is very hard to ignore. Is this a problem I should be worried about? Also, the console isn't
plugged into a surge protector.

Weird Noise coming from Power Brick

My issue is that the fan ticks. The console is set up in a bedroom. When everything is turned off (or on standby), I hear this fast "tick, tick, tick" from the Xbox One PSU. I specifically built my PC to be as close to silent as I could make it, so I can
even hear the Xbox One PSU ticking over the sound of my PC when that's turned on. I'm not saying that the noise is "loud", because it's not. But any noise that can clearly and constantly be heard when a product is supposedly turned off is not good, especially
an annoying ticking sound.

Did the update and coil whine gone! Much less sound while the console is in standby too. No sound diffirence when I turn the kinect on / off. Just a simular coil whine noise for about 1 second when turning the linect off but that might be the hd..

Thanks for your post! The sound you are hearing could be produced by the hard drive in the console. Hard drives have a needle that moves very quickly and can sometimes cause a ticking noise and a faint whine due to the hard disk spinning. I recommend checking
out the

Thank's for the quick reply. I considered this but I did find it strange that my original Xbox one has no ticking noise. I don't know if they would have the same noise, but even when nothing is being downloaded on the One X and it has been on standby for
several hours the ticking and whining continues.

As stated by fellow XBF Ezra G this is somewhat normal, we assure you there is nothing wrong with the console but again as previously suggested, look into a repair for peace of mind! Hope this helps!
