xbox one x makes a high pitch whine when turned on

The sound starts when the motors first engage and is audible at every intensity, especially at lower power levels. The sound is a high pitched whine that stays at the same frequency no matter how fast the motor spins. Sounds almost like morse code or coil whine. The sound does not appear when vibration is turned off, but I don't consider that a solution to the problem.

this sounds a lot like coil whine. It's not exactly a concern but it can be annoying. is the noise high pitched?

Rereading your post, it could also very well be something known as "coil whine", and there's nothing you can do about it. It's just the way your controller is. If it's the controller and only the controller, then that's what it is. Controllers have no fans
inside, if your console isn't making any noises when the controller is not plugged in, I can just assume that it's coil whine. Besides, fans make a grinding sound rather than a high pitched whine when they're failing.

The fan theory does make sense. But this does not sound like a noise a fan would make. It's more of a electrical buzz or whine if that makes any sense. Kind of like a old computer would sound when it was writing stuff on to the hard drive but just a bit
more intense and high pitched.

I was reading up on some forums and it seems that a lot of people have had this same issue specifically with kinect less versions of xbox one. It's supposedly the gpu making the noise when it's at a low power state and it seems many Xbox ones are affected.

High pitched whine sounds like the hard drive. If it is under warrantee I would get it fixed or replaced. If you just bought it, take it back. Our first one did this and eventually would not even start up.
