    My Xbox One X is two years old, out of warranty. I bought it used from a friend in 2019. Ever since recent software updates, the console is having issues on restart.



    Back then, I used to keep it in energy-saving mode. After September or October updates (the one with the reworked interface and flashy store pages), the console started booting into the Troubleshoot menu - no amount of factory reset seemed to work. I even tried a full reset.



    Then I figured out that a power reset - press the power button for 10 seconds, unplug the console, then restart - solves the issue temporarily. No more troubleshooting menu.



    I stopped using the console as it was a hassle to do this reset every time. Also, finally saved up for a gaming PC which I assembled in late October. So the console stayed in storage for several weeks.



    When Doom Eternal and Control dropped on Game Pass, I decided to give the box another go. Turns out, if I keep it in instant-on mode, it works.



    But the light keeps blinking sometimes, often for 30 seconds, while I'm playing. My question is - is this a sign that the hard drive is corrupted or failing?



    I am thinking about putting the console for sale as I don't use it anymore. But I really don't want to sell something that is on the cusp of hardware failure. Any advice would be appreciated, Thanks!

    Energy saving mode does completely shut down the Xbox One X, and it is safe to unplug from the wall socket. It will not harm the console in any way.

    The Instant-On feature on the Xbox One, One S and One X consoles can cause compatibility issues with the on board switch inside some routers, I would suggest you try turning off the Instant-On feature on your console and try connecting.

    To turn off the Instant-On feature on your Xbox One, One S and One X consoles:

    1. Press the Xbox logo button on your controller to open the guide.
    2. Select Settings > All settings.
    3. Select Power & startup > Power mode & startup.
    4. Select Power mode and change the setting to Energy-saving mode.
    5. Once the Energy-saving mode has been selected you should no longer experience disconnection issues.
