Xbox one x HDD replacement

Hey there, my wife's xbox one x has died on us. It was having E102 and E105 errors where I had to use an offline update to get is back up and running. This worked for a few month and we were hoping it would till the new systems. She's currently back on
her old OG one from before our x upgrade. I read that those errors were typically the HDD failing. I already replaced the thermal paste and that didn't fix it, so I was wondering if I could take the HDD from a spare OG xbox one and put it into the one x to
see if that will get it to run?

Games on an external drive should be fine most likely it will show a brief "installing" message as it validates the game data.

Opening the console and replacing the internal hard drive is not something I believe that Microsoft supports you doing. There are sites that show you how to do it and supply the "correct" HDD type.

Consoles can be banned if it is detected that they have different hardware inside them than belongs in them so you could have unexpected results from replacing the internal hard drive.

Also your save files should be either already saved to the cloud and/or make sure to have all your game saves backed-up as well so you don't lose and game progress when switching the hard drives around.

if they are on an external hdd, you'll just have to plug it back in and all your games will be there.

Internal hard drives are not made to be swapped and self-repair would violate the terms of service.
