    silly question. Should I set up my Xbox One X and then add the hard drive that was connected

    to the Xbox One S, or plug the hard drive in before I set up

    Xbox One X hard drive

    I plugged my external drive into my Xbox One X as soon as I turned it on for the first time.

    On the external drive I used for my Xbox One S,
    I backed up the settings     and made sure to
    download the 4K content     before I got the new console. Once I got my Xbox One X, it detected what I backed up on the external drive, and I proceeded with the initial system setup from there.

    Pretty sure it was the update. I have two 5tb hard drives and my xbox one x and both xbox one s don't recognize the hard drives now.

    Hi,

    I think you might need to format your external hard drive for it to work with your Xbox One X. If this is still possible for you, connect your hard drive to your ONE S console, Format the drive, then try it again on the ONE X. Hope this helps solve the issue.

    It was confirmed last night that any current external hard drive will work with the Xbox One X, however you may want to consider moving some of the games you play often over to the Xbox One X internal hard drive as it will probably load games quicker from
    internal HDD than your external one.
