Xbox one x fixed MAC address

With a bit of investigation into my Asus RT-AC3200 router settings I found I could set up a MAC filter for each home device and specify which of the routers 3 wifi signals they could connect to and limit the times and content for the XboxOne etc. I use this
in conjunction with MS Family so changing the Xbox one address settings or creating another unregulated account no longer gets around my restrictions. Guests can still use a separate less restricted time limited account too.

Sounds like you found your solution. You may also want to look into configuring the guest network as a separate network all together. Most modern routers have this option and it is a great security feature. Though I assume you are really only talking about
family and friends who you trust.

I did some research before posting the question and most hits relate to getting around restrictions of which their are many. Both children are already set up with Xbox separate child accounts and part of MS family accounts for Xbox and W10 PC with
restrictions. The MAC address I refer to is the one displayed in my router, clients MAC address which I assume is based on what the current clients ip address is at the time. I assume that they are changing the ip address as you suggested and this displays
a new MAC address in my router thus bypassing restrictions. I am surprised that they can change this setting with a child account! How? They do not know my MS password or the one on the router. They could have set up a separate adult xbox account and changed
things from there if the ip can not be changed under a child account.

Actually I applaud my son 12, for getting around all the restrictions I have set in place over the years and look forward to the next challenge I will set him. Thank you for your reply.

Both children are already set up with Xbox separate child accounts and part of MS family accounts for Xbox and W10 PC with restrictions. The issue is they overcome the router limits.

Im not sure what changes they are making, but i can tell you for sure that changing an IP address does not change the MAC address.

If they changed the IP, it would still need to be an IP thats valid in that specific address pool / subnet in order for it to work on the network and even still, it would be bound to the same MAC address

So the solution would still be to simply police the Xbox wireless / wired MAC address in your router settings. Depending on the make / model, these features can vary, but you would be looking for something like MAC address filtering or Access control
