Xbox One X - External HDD for Recording Clips

Hello Guys. I have a question.

I have bought External HardDrive, but I need to keep here some of my personal data (just documents).

Is it possible to use it as a media HardDrive for recording also with the data kept here?

Or do I need to have fresh formatted HDD to record gameplay?

Also how large will be file in 4K of one hour of recorded Gameplay?

    Thank you all for help.

    :)

Just to be on the safe side: Backup your important documents to another drive temporarily and connect the drive to your Xbox console.

Even if the console normally uses drives for Media use without formatting, it might be that the drive is already formatted in an unsupported file system (maybe you're using Linux or MacOS and have the drive formatted in a Linux file system).

Do NOT let the console format it for game storage! Use it for media use only!

Then, when you were able to record your gameplay, and your documents are still intact, you can simply use the drive normally.

OK so if I have some docs on the external drive and connect it to Xbox - use it as a media drive I do not need to delete the docs here and I will be able to record games? Correct?

    Thanks

I have a 4tb External HD on my One X and once it is plugged into the Xbox and formatted for that console it will only save from the console I believe, if you wanted to add documents from a PC you would need to format it I believe so you can add your documents.

One hour of 4k recording would equal around 80gb.

It is kinda strange that for media I can use the harddrive, but for documents it needs to be formatted. Why?

I do understand if I want to have my games that HDD must be formatted. But for media?

I do not want to buy another external drive to have for my documents separetely. Have anybody tried it?
