Xbox One X and WD External HD Sleep issues....

I have an Xbox One X and have been using a WD MyBook 4TB for a while now... I was using it with my previous Xbox One to store a few of my games. I recently switched to a WD EasyStore 10TB because there was a good deal on it.
After moving all the info over to the new external drive, I noticed the drive would not fully stay asleep. I checked a few forums and changed a few settings within the consoles Power Options and still no help. I even exchanged the drive to another one thinking
it could be the drive. I am still having the same issues with the newer drive. The drives light will blink like normal when it is off letting me know the power is still on, question is, should I just unplug it from the console when not in use (which will
be a major pain)? I never had to do this before...

    :)

  2. Need Advice On External Drive

    Hi Lakerchickie,

Mighty Miro WD has good info in their response.

I will only add that HD's do not all work the same or response the same to the Xbox One.

I have had more success with using the WD MyPassport Ultra 1TB HD.

*My only suggestion is to not purchase an external HD that needs to use a power plug in addition to USB 3.0

    External hard drive issues

I have a WD 3.0 1tb external hard drive for my xbox one. I have been using this External HD for months with no issues. Today, my xbox suddenly no longer recognizes my external HD. I have done multiple hard resets and tried different USB ports on the console
and the xbox one still will not recognize the hard drive. i have looked over multiple posts and havent found a resolution. I am a preview member and have a day one console. Can any one help resolve my issue please?

    Thanks

My only guess is that it’s because the drive is externally powered. As long as you have it set to power down the drive in the system settings when not in use I’m assuming it’s entering a low power standby state. If you start unplugging it fully I fear
over time you might have some data corruption. I would just leave it as-is.

External hard drive issues and formatting

I'm currently using a 4TB WD portable HD with my X as I don't have to plug it in to an external power source, and it works great.

Okay please read the whole paragraph before reply, this issue is very funky and specific.

Just tried after updating alpha skip ahead to 714, issue still persists.

Microsoft if you are reading this forum thread, do realize the issue is when I am trying to transfer from one external drive to another external drive. Internal to external works all day and night.

Your patch didnt clarify that point.

I have bought 2 WD drives

    WD 8TB

they are supported for ps4 pro and in theory should support xbox one x as well.

No one on here or reddit has reported issues with WD with power supply bombing on the console.
