    Xbox One Won't Read exFat Drive


    I'll start by saying the drive is in fine working order (going by the computers it connects to without issue)

    I plug it in and the X1 asks me if I want to use it for Media or Games, I choose media, but then it changes to the "no storage media found" screen.

    The drive is formatted to exFAT so I can use it with Mac & X1

    to my knowledge the xbox with read any formatted drive, will write captures to any drive formatted as ntfs, but the games storage partition uses something like exfat

    Hello!

    In order to use an external hard drive for the Xbox One it must meet the requirements.

    External drives are required to be formatted NTFS per:

    For an external storage drive to save games and apps from Xbox One, it must meet the following requirements:

    It uses a USB 3.0 connection. If you’re using a USB hub, the hub must also be USB 3.0 or later.

    It has 256 GB or larger storage capacity.

    It has a partition. Typically, drives come with a preformatted partition. For more information about partitioning an external hard drive, refer to the manufacturer’s instructions.

    I used to have it set as NTFS and I worked fine, then it just stopped, which is why I switched to exFAT.

    I've also tried today as FAT32 and it worked once and then stopped working. I'll say again that the drive works perfectly with all other devices I've tried, is USB3 and 1TB

    Issues with exFAT drives.

    The console shouldn't be able to read any drives running exFat or FAT32 only NTFS and no there shouldn't be a limit how much is in the folders it's just it is having issues reading the drives.

    I'm curious how did you get it to run exFat because it isn't supposed too.

    chromebooks can only format an external drive to exfat, they can read and write to ntfs but there is no option to format to any other file system other than exfat.

    How to Format a Drive

    To erase and format the drive, right-click the name of the drive and select “Format Device”. Chrome OS will format the drive with the exFAT file system. There’s no way to choose a different file system, change the drive’s partition layout, or name the drive.

    Installing Flight Simulator 2020 on Windows 11 from Xbox app - only allows install on C:

    I found the solution.
    You need to use NTFS as the file system.

    I believe this shouldn't be the case as other game management systems don't require that. But if you are reading this and trying to install the files on an external drive be sure it's NTFS. exFat won't work.

    Hi guys,

    Hopefully this will help you as it seems to have fixed my issue for me. Simply do a hard reset of your Xbox One. Also, ensure that the drive is formatted in either NTFS, exFAT, or FAT32. Otherwise it won't work.
