Xbox One won't properly show in1080p only 640 x 480 resolution on old tv.

So I tried to set up my Xbox one on my parents old Panasonic Viera and everything connected but the TV only shows in 640 x 480 resolution. I tried changing the video fidelity to HDMI or DVI but when I change the resolution to 1080 or 720 the TV starts flicking until change back. Also we have a cable box connected to the tv and it show 1080 with no problems.

So, is this issue happening with only that TV?
Did you tried using another HDMI cable to see how it goes?

And which troubleshooting steps you have done so far on your console?

It will not work on any other resolution besides the lowest one (640 x 480)

640 x 480 is a low resolution by today's standards. The only thing I can suggest is a factory reset of the console. https://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-one/console/reset-console-to-factory-defaults

I have the same problem. Following the steps mentioned in help section didnt change anything. Mine is a brand new xbox one S. After a couple of days its just stuck at 640x480.

if the Xbox does not get the televisions capabilities properly reported to it over HDMI, it will default to 640 x 480 like all computers do

What exactly is the model of your television
