Xbox One wireless controller issues

Hello! My Xbox One controller functions fine when connected wirelessly to the Xbox One alone, but I run into problems when I try to wire it to my PC/Xbox One. I am using a micro-usb cable from outside Microsoft, but from skimming forums, I'm supposed to
be able to use *almost* any micro-usb cable. However, my controller doesn't actually connect to the device I wire it to. Strangely, it still charges, but doesn't seem to transfer any information.

I have a Windows 10 PC and I think I have all drivers and other Xbox One related software updated, so I don't know where the problem is coming from. I have tried 2 different (non-stock) micro-usb cables and neither have transferred information, only charged.
Please help!

"am I being stupid".... No, everyone has trouble from time to time. But, let me suggest following up with a couple of things, "Connect a wireless
Xbox One controller to your console" and "Xbox One Wireless Controller disconnects or can't connect" . Let us know if you continue to have
issues connecting the controller to your Xbox.

Does it work when you plug it into the console? If not have you assigned it to a profile?

What are you trying to use if for on the PC?

 

No, it doesn't work when I plug it into the console. It doesn't recognize it so it doesn't let me assign it to a profile.

I heard that you could use both your headphones and microphone when streaming if you wire it to a PC. Without it, only my headphones work.

 

You can use both but you have to manually change the input device to the headset mic.

I would contact support (i like live chat support personally), you might have a faulty controller but they will be able to trouble shoot with you.
