  1. Xbox One WEP WPA2 encryption issue

I'm having issues where my Xbox One will not connect to my gateway when my gateway is setup for WEP encryption. If I switch my gateway encryption to WPA2 or turn encryption off all together then it will connect. Problem is I also have Nintendo products are not equipped with drive that would connect with WPA2 encryption. Since simply changing the encryption type does allow the xbox one to connect the problem must be very confined to a difference between WEP and WPA2 encryption. What could that issue be and how do I fix it.

Yeah I know WEP is less secure but I live in rural area so having encryption is more for the purpose of appearing to being secure then actually being secure. Someone would have to go out of their way to find my network and even then want to get into my network for it to be a problem. Plus I know how to view what devices are connected to my gateway. I know all my devices IP and mac addresses.

Hi and thanks for reaching Microsoft Xbox gamer's community. My name is Josef.
I'm an Independent Advisor and a Microsoft Xbox user like you.

Hope you're doing great today despite this Howard

What error message are you seeing when you set the password type to WEP?
Are you able to use WPA to see if both Xbox and Nintendo consoles are capable to connect to the network?

Resetting my router to factory settings didn't work so I guess there must be some kind of firewall that blocks specific information exchange that only the xbox asks for but none of my other devices need. Note: my router security says it blocks IPv4 and IPv6 unsolicited ping packets from the internet, blocks IPv6 packets for IKE protocol for VPN, and blocks IPv6 packet with HIP or AH extension headers, and has enabled reflective ACL to keep unsolicited internet traffic from getting to my device. Is it possible xbox would appear to be one of these items and that's why my router is rejecting it, though I think if that was the issue it wouldn't work with WPA2 either. I called my internet company and he suspects xbox discontinued allowing WEP connections on their devices unless connected by hotspot but that really doesn't make sense either. Currently looks like my best option is to setup my phone to act like a repeater when I need it. I can probably by a burner phone that does hotspot never activate it and only use it as a hotspot connection.

I would never recommend having WEP on ever. No joke, it can be cracked in a matter of seconds (less than 10 seconds in a lot of cases) so having that enabled would be a HUGE security issue for your network and all devices that are connected to it.

Your asking for your wifi to get hacked by having that old/extremely obsolete encryption turned on.

If you have older Nintendo devices that only work with WEP then id use that exclusively on a wifi hotspot with the WEP encryption on there if you really have to and have nothing else connected to it except for those devices.

Doing anything else is just asking for trouble.

I have not tried doing a factory reset on my router. I just tried to connect with hotspot WEP and yes it does connect that way. So should doing a factory reset on my router fix the problem? Only setting I've ever changed on it was changing encryption type and passwords?
