Xbox One Update - Xbox now needing repair service for £120

Xbox One needed to run the update so we initiated the update via web, it failed.

Have followed all the various workarounds including the offline USB update.

All attempts have failed and device says send for repair at my expense - OUT OF WARRANTY

And all the while our OLD XBOX 360 still works!!!! How stupid is that.

The update is NOT FIT FOR PURPOSE

I am extremely ANGRY.

Hi,

I understand your frustration here, but let me try to explain.

Your Xbox One console in many ways is like a PC. Its Operating System is installed on to the hard drive. When updates fail to install to the Xbox One, the usual failure is with the hard drive and a corrupted/damaged Operating system.

Since the Xbox One hard drive is not user replaceable and the Xbox One OS being far more complex than the Operating System of the Xbox 360, the only recourse is to contact Microsoft for a repair.

This wouldn't be considered a 'not fit for purpose' fault under British consumer law and it's not a 'sabotage' attempt on behalf of Microsoft.

I have the same problem. The new update started this morning and runs until 66% then just stalls. After a long time it says "something went wrong" and prompts me to restart console. All this does is start the update procedure again where it still sits
at 66% then repeats the process.

I'm going to invest my £120 in another machine / manufacturer. Another customer lost.

How can an update break a machine, what sort of update actually renders a perfectly working machine useless.

Hi,

I understand your frustation but It's a coincidence and certainly not from the update. Your hardware has maybe an issue with the internal hard drive or the motherboard if the offline update not working, so you have to send it to repair center.
