Xbox one update comeing back as error due to gold membership

I recently purchased a pre-owned xbox one from gamestop. during the mandatory update a error message poped up and after running the error code through the checker it said the error was because of my gold membership status. The issue is that the update
is required before i can even access my xbox account

I think the error is due to gold or to update or contact xbox support

I got them from the free xbox live gold memberships.

And I did get thwm onto my console but whenever I try to play them It comes up with that error message and takes me back to my games or dashboard.
