Xbox One Taking Extremely Long Time to Update

I've had my Xbox One since the fall of 2015. For the last year or so, it has been taking longer and longer for it to do system updates. It used to take an hour or two at most to download and apply updates. Yesterday, it took fifteen hours in total. The first
two steps, downloading and verifying, went quickly and took less than half an hour. It's the applying update step where it hangs up.

The Xbox always finishes the update eventually, and it runs fine otherwise, but I dread running system updates. I do not have any trouble downloading new games or game updates, even fairly large ones. However, even minor system updates have been taking at
least six hours if not more.

I have tried clearing the system cache and power cycling, but it does not seem to help. Is there anything else I can try? Or are updates supposed take this long now?

Thanks for keeping us updated on the issue. As you are currently running good and waiting for the update. As the next system update will most likely be over a month away I will go ahead and lock this thread. You can come back then and create a new thread
if having an issue.

or turn off your router for 30 seconds then back on and begin the update again sometimes a restart can help solve this

Hi,

usually it doesn't take too long to apply an update . I suggest you reset the console to factory default (you can choose to keep your game&apps):

Thank you all, I tried resetting my console--won't know if it worked until the next update comes out, but hopefully it fixes it.

Thanks for reaching out to the community for help on this issue.

I can totally see how slow updates could be really frustrating.

If your console has a hard time completing system updates, it might be easier/faster to do it offline instead. Just follow the steps for downloading the OSU update to a flash drive outlined in our

Xbox One System Update Solution.
