    Xbox One S Won't Ask to Update Xbox 360 Discs that I insert


    I am trying to play some backwards compatible games like Bioshock Infinite but nothing happens when I insert the Xbox 360 game disc. Every video I have seen on this shows a dialogue box opening up and asking if you want to Update and download the game.
    This never happens on any of the discs I have inserted. I've checked to make sure they are on the backwards compatible list before trying on each disc. Still nothing happens. Is this a current issue with the software or do I just have a bad box?

    Have you tried putting your xbox 360 discs in a xbox 360 console? If they work in that console you may have a read error in your xbox one.

    Can you confirm if your console can read DVD discs?

    Xbox 360 games are on DVD and Xbox One games are on Blu-Ray. The Xbox One's Blu-ray drive has a separate laser to read DVD's, if it has malfunctioned, Xbox 360 games can't be read and the digital download for BC games won't start.

    To test this out, try playing a DVD movie disc. In all likelihood these films won't play and that will confirm drive malfunction. If this is the case you'll need your console repaired/replaced.
    This may be the problem. DVDs aren’t working in the drive. I will see if this can be fixed or if I need to replace the system.

    Typically, Microsoft starts by adding backward-compatibility to
    base versions. Xbox Core services are down – Another problem that might cause this error code is a temporary problem with the Xbox One
    servers. It's possible that the server is either undergoing maintenance or it's the target of a DDOS attack. If the server is infact online please check if your disc is scratched or damaged. If it is please clean or replace it.

    Hi,

    No, that's not how it works.

    GTA IV is a backwards compatible game. When you insert the disc the console will prompt you for an update (the update is actually the digital download).

    To play a disc based Xbox 360 game on your Xbox One you'll still need to insert the disc to launch the game and prove ownership.
