  1. Xbox one s not using atmos speakers in games

So I just bought a xbox one s to work with my home theater (which has a 5.1.2 setup with two bundled atmos speakers in the front) . I have set everything up as it should (bitstream out and dolby atmos for home theater). I Have downloaded the dolby access
app to be able to play dolby atmos sound. My receiver is compatible with dolby atmos and it does work when I connect my laptop with my home theater to watch movies in dolby atmos.

But the problem is this: watching netflix or a blu-ray movie on my xbox one s works. On atmos titles I can hear sound coming from the height speakers (or atmos speakers). In games this isn't the case. I've tested this with forza horizon 4 and rise of the
tomb raider, both games are assumed to be able to support dolby atmos. But when I play these games, no sound is coming from the height speakers. The rest of the sound works as it should, but I would like to have this overhead effect too. I should also note
I have updated the xbox one s to the latest version and I am using a decent hdmi cable. I don't know what to do anymore to solve this issue.

    Thank you in advance

    Ben

    :)

    XB1X Dolby Atmos problem

with a 5.1 speaker setup you cant have atmos, dont use it.

5.1.2 is the minimal speaker setup for real atmos, and a atmos suporting receiver

dts x works with 5.1 speaker systems, atmos not

    Thank you for the reply

there is indeed atmos output from the xbox one when I play a 4k UHD movie (I tested this with a GOT blu-ray), so I know it is posible to play dolby atmos via my xbox. The only place on my xbox where it is not present is in game, where ofcourse because of
the update of the xbox my receiver shows it gets dolby atmos all the time. I think there goes something wrong when overhead sound effects should be directed from the game to my two up-firing dolby atmos speakers. Maybe Microsoft will fix this in an upcoming
update, but I don't seen anyone else having this specific problem. In some reviews of the games I read there is a nice overhead effect, but I don't get them. Thank you either way :)

I also re-installed the dolby acces app. Demo content in the app itself plays sound from my height speakers and the rest of my speakers. I only get this problem when playing games, where only the height speakers are not playing any sound at all.
It seems that the console and your audio system is properly configured for Dolby Atmos, since the Atmos Demo works.

Also try to download the free "Insects" demo from Microsoft, which allows you to switch between Dolby Atmos and "regular" surround sound.

Check if Atmos works in that demo, as the Atmos Demos in the app are usually videos with a fixed, pre-rendered audio track.

Also, which games are you trying exactly? Do the games really support Dolby Atmos themselves? Because the Xbox One S will not "upscale" regular surround sound from non-Atmos games to have height information.

Xbox one s not using atmos speakers in games

    Hello

Thank you. Yes I am aware that not many game titles support atmos already. But I have 4 games in my possession that are atmos enabled. I bought the xbox one s for this reason. I research a lot when buying or using products to use them as effective as I can,
and when something doesn't work as it should I keep trying until it's fixed :) But thanks anyway for the reply!

Thank you for responding. I did try to set my output options to both 5.1 uncompressed and 7.1 uncompressed and then reverting back to dolby atmos sound. I also re-installed the dolby acces app. Demo content in the app itself plays sound from my height
speakers and the rest of my speakers. I only get this problem when playing games, where only the height speakers are not playing any sound at all. The rest of my speakers have no problem in producing the sound as it should. I will retry changing the settings
as you suggested later this day. Thank you for the help.
