    Xbox one S not capturing in 4K anymore


    Hey, I have Xbox One S that was capturing in 4K up till this past update, now it only does 720p and 1080p, I've never had it set to either of these options but i tried switching to both and restarting the Xbox and it didn't give the 4k option back.

    I've tried to rest the Xbox both ways (soft reset to keep apps and games and hard reset as if I'm selling it) neither one worked, the display settings are set to 4K HDR with allow 50Hz and 24Hz enabled, Tried different TVs along with different 4K HDMI cables, resetting the MAC address, I've tried a 1080p and 720p monitor but nothing has worked after that, I've also tried reformatting my external ssd and trying a different ssd (both bought through the Xbox store) but neither of those had any effect on it, I've tried to capture to the internal hdd but that didn't work.

    any suggestions or thoughts on this?

    I have reached out through support by phone call and message and neither of them could find a solution and suggested I post here about the issue.

    Samsung 4K UHD smart tv

    Why are you wanting to capture at 4K? the Xbox One S doesnt render any game at 4k, so all you will be doing is capturing an upscaled image.

    I have finished doing the offline update and it sadly didn't help, it still gives the same problem. At this point I'm properly just going to buy a capture card that does 4k and record everything then do edits.

    4K Capture More than 2 minutes

    So, yesterday I chatted with MS Support and basically she said that the Xbox One S does not have the capability of "capturing" gameplay in 4K. And that was a feature only possible with the Xbox One X.

    So, I left that conversation with the thought that I had made the wrong choice of consoles if that is what I wanted to achieve.

    With the Xbox One S, I can only capture as high a resolution in 1080p SDR at 2 minutes max. And yes, I did have a properly formatted external drive connected to the console but this is what I was informed of.

    However, I come to find out that I do have the capability of capturing longer than 2 mins when I did so while recording the intro to Star Wars Battlefront ll at a duration of 14 minutes.

    So fact-checking MS Support my question is, has anyone captured gameplay in 4K using the Xbox One S?

    My tv supports 4k and display resolution is set to 4k HDR, but i am not able to record 4k gameplay videos. The high I can capture is 1080p resolution there is no option for 4k recording

    I am using xbox series s, i see in the box it says it supports 4k gaming, so this means it will not support 4k recording but will support 4k gaming display. I am able to play games in 4k but not able to record them.

    I am not using any capture card for recordings
