Xbox One S Headset Audio Completely Broken

    Hi, rant incoming...

I am unable to use headsets while gaming as none of them work on any of my four controllers. The headsets work everywhere else, they are a variety of brands, they ONLY don't work on my Xbox. They even work on my partner's PS4 controllers.

I have THREE Design Labs controllers - one of which I had to send off to be replaced as it stopped working so quickly, the other I bought for my partner for his birthday and he too has noticed issues with the bumpers on his, the third has just completely stopped working. The process for getting these fixed and replaced is annoying and long, and the controllers aren't exactly cheap - I'm yet to even raise a case for his controller as I'm dreading going through the same process I did with mine. I don't think I can even raise a case for the third as it's probably out of warranty by now. It still begs the question: why have all of my Design Labs controllers broken when they're among the most expensive to purchase?

Back to the main issue: the headset audio. this has been a problem for about a year now, I tried to contact Microsoft about this last year but customer support seems to be incredibly elusive considering how much we spend on games/subscriptions/consoles. I ended up speaking to a "gamer" who took me through many steps such as updating all my controllers (not the issue), and even FACTORY RESETTING MY XBOX (also not the issue) among other methods that did not work. This was all incredibly frustrating and I wasn't even passed on to anyone else to resolve the issue?

I've been managing by playing the sound through the TV, but it has become more and more annoying to play online with my friends, especially during lockdown. I don't have a mic to communicate with as it isn't working, and I play sat next to my partner who has to half wear a headset and also mute his mic to prevent echo for our friends. I've seen somewhere else that getting an adapter could potentially work, but I'm not going to spend money and risk wasting it for a workaround that may not even work, for a problem that isn't my fault that I've already contacted Microsoft to try and resolve.

Can anyone please advise? I've been on Xbox since I can remember, but this issue and how it was handled has genuinely made me reconsider which next gen console I'll be getting.

    Thanks in advance.

    :)

Basic xbox one turtle beach headset.

I think the headset jack is broken on my elite controller so I decided to use one of those black adapters.... But it won't allow me to change audio volume.

I've used the kinect audio and headset audio equally and I have to say that the kinect audio from other players is quite annoying. It's very broken and sounds very distant. Also, i'm unable to be understood on the kinect as opposed to the headset. I only
have the standard headset at the moment but am going to get the Turtle Beach one soon.

No game audio on Rainbow Six unless mic plugged in.

Thats why it isn't working. The Xbox One Mono Chat Headset (the one you're talking about) will not give you game audio. It will only provide chat audio. Your case sounds like the headset itself is broken. Try using a controller with a 3.5 mm jack and see
if another headset will work. I have the same problem and I just use the Kinect to talk online.

    Hey there,

Sorry to hear about the audio issue! Which headset are you trying to use with your Xbox One S controller? Having those details will help us a bunch. In the meantime, I recommend consulting our

    Xbox One Headset Compatibility
page to make sure the headset/cable you're using is compatible. Be sure to check out the 'Standards for audio jacks' section!

    Keep us posted!

    Xbox mic not working

Hi there, have you tried your headset mic in any other device, for example a smartphone or PC?

Try and check if your mic works.

Here's aguide to troubleshoot Mic problems.

Is it possible that the mic is broken? Have you tried checking if your audio is muted via party chat or on the headset Audio settings on your console?
