Xbox One S HDD died and I need to replace

The HDD is replaceable and, if you extend the console warranty, is covered under the console warranty. No need to buy a new console every time the HDD dies.

It's possible that the HDD has not died at all. If all it needs is to be reseated, then removing the HDD and putting it back in will not erase anything on the drive. If the HDD has experienced a failure, however, and reseating does not work, it's possible
that you will need to replace the HDD. If this is the case, it may be impossible to retrieve the save game progress.

Sounds like the HDD is on its way out, if you can see the HDD in the xbox you could get a replacement and transfer them across before it dies completely.

If not then, its just like any other HDD fail, when it goes it goes but you can transfer to another HDD if you put another HDD in and copy the game over.

Using the old 20GB HDD's in the Xbox 360 S is against the ToU. It is a form of system tampering / modding ( opening the old hard drive case and then putting it in an Xbox 360 S where it's not supposed to be. ) You know that this may get you banned , right?
If i were you i was about to replace the HDD with a 250GB S HDD ( They only cost around $59,99 now )

Yes it does look like 2 boxes super-glued together... One... Since the HDD is non-removable, what happens if the HDD fails (which HDD ARE prone to) after the warranty expires? Does the whole thing need replacing - the price of a new console? Even the Kinect
sensor looks bigger or at least block-ier than the 360's kinect.
