XBox One S - Error E101/E102, Tried Everything?

My son was playing his XBox One S when it started acting very sluggish well beyond game lag. At the home screen, some of the menu items were not responding, so he powered it down, waited a few minutes, and powered it back up. It came on with the Something went wrong error E102 with the option to Restart or Troubleshoot.

I've tried both of the built-in "Reset this Xbox" options. It immediately does the powering-down chime and restarts back to the Something went wrong screen with E101 error. No "Preparing Console" screen.

I've tried going to the Hold Eject/Pair Troubleshooting menu and using the Offline System Update with a USB drive (OSU1, 32GB USB 3, formatted NTFS) as well as trying a USB-based factory reset. Both, sound the power-on chime, go very briefly to the Preparing Console screen, immediately sounds the power-off chime (doesn't even get to 1%), then back to the Something went wrong screen with E101 but with just "Continue" on the screen. I press continue and I'm back to the Troubleshoot screen.

I suspect the hard drive is failing and I'd like to open the system up and put a new HD in, but even tho the original Xbox warranty is expired, my wife purchased the Wal-Mart warranty that expires next year and we don't want to jeopardize that if we have to act on it. I also suspect the hard drive may be full, but there's no way for me to check that.

I've been at this for 8 hours now and at my wit's end. Did I miss something or do I need to ship this thing off?

No. I'm in the process of getting it shipped to Microsoft for repair.

I did the same as Jcorm89. It doesn't work for me. Spent 4 hours trying the MS recommended fixes. They're not effective. Send Help!

UPDATE

I decided to see if my original ISU1 file is corrupt. I reformatted the USB using the long method and redownloaded the file from the site and reinstalled it using an ethernet connection and my Xbox is alive again.

Time for Mortal Kombat again phew.

Hey so I have the same issue with the same exact OS and I've tried OSU1 and 2 I'm about to try 3 just for the sake of it.

I was playing a game when it froze on me and I had to close the app, I then restarted my Xbox from the GUI and have been in this loop ever since just the same was described with the same OS Version as displayed by the others.

I cannot factory reset, but all the physical functions seem to work fine, I can eject the disk and have no problem with power.

When I try to update offline I get error code E101 00000503 80070003

When I try to factory reset or restart my console I get error code E102 00000C01 800070003

Odd thing is when I first tried to update offline using OSU1 it seemed to be working at first and even progressed through the progress bar. Now it just rubberbands.

If anyone wants to debug this I'm definitely down I'm not crazy smart I just don't give up easy lol.

Also, if you have a warranty from Wal-Mart it would be best to reach out to them to get it checked instead of opening the system up.
