Xbox One S - Brand new and earbuds mic not working on controller!

Try Setting up a headset adapter which bypasses the 3.5mm socket which
may have gone faulty. Also you may need to Update your controller firmware. A
new update was released recently.

What adapter did you try without success?

Be aware that there are two standards for 3.5 mm headset jacks called OMTP and CTIA. With both standards, the microphone and ground pin connectors are reversed.

Which means, if your Bose headset has an OMTP standard jack, the headset is sending microphone signals to the controller's ground, while the controller is "listening" for the microphone on the headset's ground pin.

If the headset actually works on your smartphone for example, then simply get an OMTP to CTIA adapter cable. Since only two wires get crossed over, these adapters should be dirt cheap. If the store is asking for a higher price than a coffee-to-go for such
an adapter, you are being ripped off. Also, since crossing the ground and microphone pin works both ways, you can also get a CTIA to OMTP adapter, as both are the same thing.

Pretty sure its something to do with the apple headphones... they are wired different compared to normal ones..

Earbuds do work with the newer version of Xbox controllers. (S controllers)

Both mics are xbox official headsets and controllers, one of the controllers is a day one edition but just bought another brand new official xbox controller to see if that was the problem. The Mic just randomly stopped working one evening. And yes the
mic symbol is shown in the top right hand corner with no line through it
