xbox one recognizes drive, won't let me format for extra storage

It is a 1 TB seagate. I reformatted on pc because I have read that these have partition issues. Plugged in in to xbox, deselected check box about "when xbox is off, turn off storage". Did a hard restart, tried again, tried another "quick reformat" on
my computer. Tried again, did another hard restart. Someone help please, tried all options available that I could find online and none have helped.

    :)

No option to format external storage

I'm trying to use a Seagate 2TB Game Drive (it's even sold as for use with Xbox One/360). The console recognizes the drive as media storage, but provides no option to format it for games/apps use.

External hard drive won't format - stuck in format loop

I have a bare sata 3, 2.5 inch drive in a USB 3.0 enclosure. The drive works great in every other machine except the Xbox one. The Xbox recognizes the drive and let me use it for media, however, the minute I try to format the drive for games it lets me go
through the wizard and I select format then the drive blinks and then the Xbox acts like I plugged it in and asks to format the drives for games again.

I have done all the regular troubleshooting. I hard reset the console. I've formatted the drive in both NTFS and FAT32. Any thoughts?

On the computer check it disk management to see if the drive may have two partitions on it. If it does you should delete the partitions and then partition it as one large partition and format it again. Good Luck!

  5. Just to be sure... does your hard drive use USB 3.0? If it's a USB 2.x hard drive, the Xbox One won't be able to format it for use with games/apps.

Well, my edit didn't go through either, so here's what's up.....

Switched out cord. Both cords were USB 3.0 Micro B styles. It just didn't like one. Super happy I wasted all day on this when it was a simple cord problem.

    Grrrrrrr

Thanks for trying to help though.

xbox one recognizes drive, won't let me format for extra storage

Well, my edit didn't go through, posted and clicked answered, but it gave me an error and is not showing still.

It was my cord. Switched from a long USB 3.0 micro b cord to a short one (still 3.0 micro b) and it worked. So glad I wasted my day.

    Thanks for trying to help.

  12. I found no fixes those who tried reformatting with PC had no luck, One thing I do know having two HDDs plugged in was causing problems for some that was fixed but we have had updates since also there were problems with wireless connection and HDDs for some
reason again fixed but have updates since maybe worth checking.

Microsoft... FFS fix this ongoing issue with external HDD! Sunday morning.... And here it happens again. I used to fox this by unplugging and plugging the HDD back in and it would recognize it, but no luck.
