Xbox One Power LED flashing Red

A friend of mine tried to boot up his Xbox One this weekend. When he pressed the power button, it did not turn on and the power led on the console began to flash red. He and I are familiar with the red rings on the 360, but neither of us have heard about it happening on the original Xbox one.

He opened the case and cleaned the fan and interior, but hasn’t plugged it back in yet to power it on.

Does anyone know if it’s an overheat/ventilation issue or is it something more serious with the console?

Hello Diebric, by its description the console has already been opened and at this point it is difficult to know what the console has without an analysis by a technical part specialized in consoles.

I don't know what the console model would be, but if it's the old model the Xbox One Fat it no longer has repair service paid for by Microsoft, however the One S/X and Series S/X consoles have microsoft's paid repair service

Yes when plugged in the xbox the led flashes red and green

LED has always been red. Since I bought it, the LEDs operation has been steady when idle, flashes when reading/writing, off when the drive has no power (which is only when it's not plugged in).

turn the xbox 360 on, and wait till the 3 red lights are flashing.

Press and hold the sync up button while holding that button press the eject button.

The LEDs will now blink the first number in the code

Release the eject button and press it again.

The LEDs will now blink the second number of the code.

Release the eject button and press it again.

The LEDs will now blink the third number of the code.

Release the eject button and press it again.

The LEDs will now blink the forth number of the code.

Release the eject button and press it again.

The LEDs will go back to the 3 red flashing lights.

All four lights flashing = 0

One light flashing = 1

Two Lights flashing = 2

Three lights flashing = 3

EDIT: to consolidate this into one thread i will add this here. the power brick has a status LED when it is in use, and when your console is on, it should always be green only. if it is orange, flashing orange, or even red while your console is on and in
operation, it means there is a problem in the power supply or the outlet itself or you have too many things running on a current tap. if you get the three-red ring of death, check your power supply LED. i will bet it is orange or even red. meaning faulty
power brick. try another power brick from a known working Xbox like from a friend or if you got two, try your good Xbox PSU and see if it works. i lost one Xbox 360 due to the three-red ring of death followed by a completely dead console (the PSU failed and
took the console with it). for the longest time i figured red was just the color of the power supply LED, until it failed and as i was checking, discovered the color chart in fine print under the power brick itself. i had a weak and/or failing supply and when
i turned my Xbox off and right back on in an effort to reboot it after resetting my router, it killed it. i am unsure of everyone but my replacement Xbox has a power brick LED that is green all the time, on or off. i suspect that is proper, although my slim,
and it may be slim specific, has one that is orange when off and green while on. i would recommend checking your power supply light regularly
