It seems that your console need a repair unluckly

Every step involves a power supply, or the ***** grey brick. We just have a cable from socket to the console.

Neither consoles have one, both bought from new.

I've been through all the steps on that page without the power supply however without the flashing lights from the power supply I'm not getting far.

While there is a fuse in the power brick, that should "sacrifice" itself to prevent damage to the power supply and console, I wouldn't really count on it.

The fuse is not a melting fuse that is replaced, but an electronic fuse that triggers when there is an overcurrent, and should reset itself after you unplugged it for 30 seconds from the wall outlet.

However, since you mentioned smoke, I assume that the 220V outlet fried that fuse, and you now have a permanently damaged power supply, which needs to be replaced.

Unfortunately, Microsoft can't service those original Xbox One consoles anymore, as they don't have the necessary replacement parts anymore.

You could try to buy a third party "Chinese knock off" power supply, which I do NOT recommend, as a lot of people complain about the poor quality of these parts (loud fan, inconsistent startup behavior) etc.

So you're better off buying a new Xbox One S or Xbox One X with a switching internal power supply that can take both 110V from the US as well as 220V from India.

You simply need a fitting power cord.
