XBox One Live Gold not recognizing child account

Hi everyone and Happy New Year! Our family is new to the Xbox community. Our son recently received an Xbox One w/ Fortnite Deep Freeze Bundle. Since he has never had his own email address, i set up the game—and purchased Live Gold—using my MS account.
Shortly thereafter I had a &#55356;�‍♀️ moment when it dawned on me that he was now online as an adult. I immediately set up an account for him, chose restrictions and made sure that our console was listed as “home.” For some reason, Fortnite keeps telling him
that he needs XLG although I know the subscription can be shared on our console. I’m wondering if he needs to be allowed to see content that others create, etc? What adds to the confusion is that we added Fortnite and a tank game (tank game free to XLG members)
and both games show under our son’s account. He has no issues playing the tank game...just Fortnite.

From your first post, I get the impression the Xbox was set as the Home Xbox while the Child Account was logged in. You will need to remove that and then login with your account and set the Xbox as your Home Xbox.

If that is not the case, then I apologize but from the order of events it sounds like the Xbox is the "Child Account's Home Xbox".

Yes specifically for Fortnite the ability to see content others have created must be set to allowed for everybody. Not to worry though its only because in Fortnite you can build structures in game and that counts as user created content. So you have to go
into "Settings" while signed into the adult account that is parental to the child account then under "Account" there is an option called "Family" once in there you can select your child's gamertag and go to their privacy and online safety settings under Xbox
Live settings. Once there we're looking for the category called Game content. The option that needs to be set to everybody is called "You can see and upload community content". Give that a try and let us know with a reply how it goes.

Yes you can share Live and games via home Xbox https://support.xbox.com/en-US/games/game-setup/my-home-xbox You will need to let your son play multiplayer games and he will need to see content others create.

There seems to be no solution to this problem if a child account is the one with Xbox Live Gold and you don't have an Xbox 360.

The parent account does not have the ability to get the Xbox Live Gold game for free.

The child account gets the message "Your account is unable to make this type of purchase on Xbox.com".
