xbox one headset, people can't hear me but I can hear them

i bought my son a new headset about 2 months ago. Hooked it up and he could hear his friends but they can't hear him. I googled the issue, saw plenty of complaints. I tried several fixes, including trying another controller, updating controllers, changing
settings, resetting, etc. he just got call of duty for Christmas and of course wants to use his headset. I read before this was an xboxglitch but was told by gmake stop that cheaper headsets just dont work. Anybody have a solution for this? Either of those
answers sound fairly stupid as this seems to be an issue that's ongoing. He can hear his friends, they can't hear him. No nuts isn't on and we have tested it in party mode as well. Any help would be appreciated.

The Division Mic Issue

I have the Xbox one stereo headset. And in party chat, people can hear me and I can hear them. But in game, other people cannot hear me, but I can hear them (both group chat and proximity chat). Both VoIP and mic are
turned on.

It's the basic Xbox chat headset. 25$ or whatever they cost. I'm debating buying him the turtle beach set but don't want it to be a waste of money as well

On the adapter on the left theres a person that controls chat volume and then the right a controller that controls game volume.

I have the same problem and am holding out. To make matters worse, I have both the factory "cheap" controller, and a turtle beach I bought afterwards. Neither of them offer the ability to speak to my friends, so beware. I had a 360 for years and never had
a problem with a headset. Now, I cannot seem to get one controller that works.

We understand that you are trying to use your single jack headset for PC gaming and is unable to hear the voices of your friends. Let us check on this together so you will get back to gaming.

Based on your description, you can hear the music and sound but not the voices. There could be an issue with compatibility, third party apps that has settings for audio or system/apps/drivers needs to be updated or could be anything related to the headset that is disabling specific sound to be outputted. To have a better understanding, we would like to further isolate your concern.

May we ask what is the make and model of your headset?
When was the last time you can hear a voice from these apps or services - Discord or Skype or games? .
Are we playing Xbox games or different storefront games?
Is the driver for the audio up to date? We will provide steps on how to update the system and apps below, please check.
Test if these works. May we know if the issue persists when:
- Connecting the controller and headset, go to audio settings and output the audio through PC speakers.
- Connecting the headset to PC and output audio to headset.
- Connecting the headset to PC and output the audio to PC speakers.
- Connect different headset to PC.
- Connect different headset to PC and output the audio to PC speakers.

So far, from the details you provided, you can try the following steps and let us know the result. You can just skip those you have done already.

Restart device - As basic as this is, a simple restart can set many things right.
Update Windows system -
- Press the Start button on the taskbar, type settings, and then select Settings.
- On Windows 10, select Update & Security. On Windows 11, select Windows Update.
- On the Windows Update page, select Check for updates to see if any updates are available for your device.
- Once the updates have downloaded, select Install now to start the installation.
- Following installation, we recommend that you restart your device so that the latest updates can take effect.

Tried that. All that shows up is kinect. Doesn't recognize the headset at all.

Try audio settings to turn on your mic.

Home button then go to far right and then go down to audio settings

Do a network test and see what your NAT is. When this happens to my son its because his NAT is on moderate.

Sometimes a hard reset gets his NAT back to "open" and it works.
