xbox one games do not read but other discs do

xbox one discs do not read on my console and produces a notice saying to clean my discs despite there beimng nothing wrong with them and some are brand new. the strange thing is that it is only xbox one discs. dvds and xbox 360 games do work. what do I have
to do to get my xbox one games working again?

ALL XBOX360 backwards compatibility DVD's are unreadable on XBOX One X!

May I point some things out.

Xbox one games on disc are stored on Blu-ray discs. Only the Xbox 360 and the original Xbox use the 'DVD' format.

What difference does this make?

All Blu-ray drives can read DVD discs as well as BD discs, but the laser diode to read DVD discs work at a different frequency to Blu-ray. As I understand it, these diodes are contained in the same package in the drive.

If a hardware fault occurs with the drive, it may manifest with ability to still read BD discs but not DVD, or the other way round.

If your console can't Xbox 360 games, but can read Xbox One games, it usually means the drive is faulty.

license transfer tool question.

I'm looking into buying a new xbox 360. the one i have now does'nt read any discs (dvd's, games, cd's). With a license transfer tool do i need my old console to read a disc of any kind? If not will i need it to read discs for a hard drive transfer? Can't
afford to phone xbox so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi there. Xbox One Discs are Blu-Ray and use a different laser to DVD's (Xbox 360 games are also DVD's) If you have a Blu-Ray Movie to try you can see that if that doesn't work, then the Blu-Ray part of your optical drive is probably faulty.

As above, try a Blu-Ray disc and see if that has the same issue. I've had this issue (as well as most of my friends who have the Xbox One) ever since the backwards compatibility update back in November. Prior to November it worked fine so it's looking more
like a driver issue since moving to the Win 10 kernel rather than a hardware issue. There's a workaround that you can try (works for me), when inserting the disc keep your finger in the hole in the centre so it prevents the disc from going in straight away.
After about a second of it trying to take the disc into the Xbox release it and allow it to load. This has worked for me for both games and Blu-Ray movies.

Do other BC Xbox 360 game discs work on your Xbox One? For the Xbox One to recognise the game and download it from Live it must:

Be able to read the disc. Check if the disc is dirty or damaged
Have a working Optical drive capable of reading Xbox 360 discs. Try other BC discs or test a DVD movie.

The Xbox One has two diodes for reading discs in the optical Blu-ray Drive. A red laser is used to read Xbox 360 and DVD movies and a blue laser to read Xbox One games and Blu-ray movies. If the diode for reading DVD's is faulty, BC Xbox 360 discs won't
work.

It's not been removed from backwards compatibility. I would say the reason why your console is displaying this error is because it can't read this particular disc. Do you have any other Xbox 360 game discs to test on your Xbox One? If you do, are they
working?

When you insert a backwards compatible Xbox 360 game disc into your Xbox One, the console will read the disc to see what's there. If your console can't read the disc it will display this message. For disc based games you must be connected to Xbox Live
as the game will need to be downloaded for you to play it.

Things to try

Verify your console can still read Xbox 360 discs.

If you don't have any other BC 360 games on disc, try a DVD movie. Make sure the disc you try is a DVD movie disc not a Blu-ray disc. If other Xbox 360 games disc work or a DVD movie, it's likely the fault lies with the disc and not the console.

Check the discs for scratches or dirty smudges. Try cleaning the disc with some water and soft towel

When you try other discs that work, are these 360 discs or Xbox One game discs?

Do you own any other 360 disc games and they work?

I ask this because 360 discs are DVD discs and Xbox games are on Blu-ray. There is a separate laser for reading DVD discs in the console.
