Xbox One Gamertag - 1 Free Change (Doesn't Allow?)

Hello,

I purchased an Xbox One a couple months ago and chose the name which I've gone with since the beginning of Xbox Live and that's the only thing I could think of at the time of setting up the Xbox in order to bypass everything with the setup. I
want to change it now and per the information I'm reading it shows I should have 1 free gamertag change. However, It's asking me to pay $9.99 to change it. Can anyone chime in?

I would also like to note that on the Xbox it does allow to add/create accounts to your Xbox - just like having multiple Netflix accounts. My son did create an account and even if he tries to change his it shows $9.99. I deleted my son's account to see if
anything would change to my profile but still wants to charge me. Is the reason I have to pay to change is because my son simply added an account to the Xbox? Did that take away my "free" change of the gamertag on my account? If it
did, then the 1 free change is not specific unless I overlooked where it said "if you create a new account on your Xbox it takes away the 1 free gamertag change". If I did miss it, is it stated anywhere on the Terms & Conditions?

Thank you for your post. I understand you are attempting to change your gamertag under a free change but are receiving a request to pay for your gamertag change. When you originally created your account and customized your gamer tag instead of accepting
the automatically generated one, that counts as a free gamer tag change.

"If you want to change the gamertag that we created for you when you first signed up for Xbox (meaning you didn’t choose it yourself), you can change it one time for free. After that, all Xbox gamertag changes cost extra."

EchoxWindwaker doesn't sound like one of the randomly generated ones.

Newer accounts allow you to put in a gamertag to begin with, but don't grant the name change. Older accounts, with a randomly generated gamertag, get a free name change.

No. The policy on name changes is the same as on the 360. One free name change when you create the gamertag, then $10 after that.

Gamertag changes only affect the name of the gamertag. Achievements, game progress, online rankings, downloaded content, system settings, etc, will all remain exactly the same.

There are only 2 ways to get a free gamertag change. 1) If the system chose a random name for you, you are allowed 1 free gamertag change within the first 30 days of having the tag. 2) If the tag violates the code of conduct the enforcement team will issue
a forced gamertag change.

Unless you fall into either of those catagories, you'll have to pay the 800 points to change your tag. Spaces are allowed.

I'm not sure why it would say it's not allowed, but the system doesn't see things like spaces as making a gamertag unique. So you would have to change your gamertag to something different first and wait for it to free up before changing it to the one with spaces.
