    Xbox One extremely slow download

For about a year now, I noticed my xbox one has taken significantly longer to download game updates than it has in the past. To remedy that, I turned on automatic updates while the xbox is in sleep mode and that has helped me significantly.

Recently, a game update came out that my xbox did not update in sleep mode. When I tried to make the update with the xbox on, the game would show as installing but the update was not actually progressing. Additionally, trying this made the wifi practically unusable for any other device at the time. So it is drawing a lot of bandwidth, but the update wasn't going anywhere.

I have power cycled the xbox and have restarted my router and modem but no luck. I swapped the power option from sleep to shutdown (making sure updates were still enabled) and after about 4 hours the game has only downloaded less than 2 GBs. This is the only movement I have seen on the download.

Not really sure what to do here. My wifi is generally good. I can stream with no issue and download movies to my other devices fairly quickly. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

    :)

    Xbox One extremely slow download

    Hello Mago47,

Thank you for posting in the Microsoft Community.

I'm sorry to hear that you are experiencing slow download issues with your Xbox One. I understand how frustrating that can be, especially when you want to play your favorite games.

There are a few possible causes for this problem, such as network congestion, interference, or settings. I'd like to ask few questions about your issue:

    - What is the game that you are trying to update? How large is the update file?

    - How are you connecting your Xbox One to the internet? Are you using a wired or wireless connection?

    - Have you checked the network settings on your Xbox One? What is the current download speed and NAT type?

    - Have you tried clearing the cache on your Xbox One? To do this, press and hold the power button on the console for 10 seconds, then unplug the power cord and wait for another 10 seconds before plugging it back in and turning on the console.

    - Have you tried changing the DNS settings on your Xbox One? To do this, go to Settings > Network > Advanced settings > DNS settings > Manual, and enter 8.8.8.8 as the primary DNS and 8.8.4.4 as the secondary DNS.

To troubleshoot this issue, please follow these steps:

    - Check your network speed and bandwidth. You can do this by going to Settings > Network > Network settings > Test network speed & statistics on your Xbox One. Compare the results with the minimum requirements for the game you are trying to update. If your speed or bandwidth is too low, you may need to contact your internet service provider (ISP).

    - Check your wireless signal strength and stability. You can do this by going to Settings > Network > Network settings > Detailed network statistics on your Xbox One. Look at the wireless signal strength and packet loss indicators. If they are too low or high, respectively, you may need to move your Xbox One closer to your router, use a wired connection, or change the wireless channel on your router.

    - Check your storage space and clear the cache. You can do this by going to Settings > System > Storage on your Xbox One. Make sure you have enough free space to download the update. If not, you may need to delete some games or apps that you don't use. To clear the cache, press and hold the power button on your console for 10 seconds until it shuts down completely. Then unplug the power cord from the back of the console for at least 30 seconds. Plug it back in and turn on your console.

    - Restart the update or reinstall the game. You can do this by going to My games & apps > Queue on your Xbox One. Highlight the game that is stuck and press the Menu button on your controller. Select Cancel or Uninstall, depending on whether you want to restart the update or reinstall the game. Then go to My games & apps > Ready to install and select the game to start the download again.

    Hey there Btallas!

Appreciate if you could provide us with a little more information. Please read:
START HERE! And post back in full detail (the bits that are in bold).

If you have a standard modem, could you try connect your console directly to this and verify if you can connect properly.

Could you tell us if UPnP is currently turned on or off.

    Thanks!
