Xbox one External Hard Drive no format option

So I got a new Xbox One a while ago and I have ran out of space recently. I had a spare external hard drive laying around so I formatted it and plugged it in. I had the option to format it in the settings but I didn't choose it since I had other things too
and I would just do it later. I came back to my Xbox and went to format it but the option wasn't there anymore. Later I found that if you don't choose to format the first time then it won't work the next time you try. I don't know a fix to get the option back
and I know it seems like a stupid question to ask but I have no idea what I'm doing.

    Anything would help please.

    :)

  2. No format option for external hard drive.

Hi, when i plug in a external hard drive in my Xbox One the format option does not come up. It's a new drive, usb 3.0 and 3 tb and it is recognized as a media drive. No format option in manage storage, only view content. Tried hard resets, formatting to
    exFAT and FAT32 etc.

    Does anyone have solution? Thnx!

  3. Is there a way to use an External hard drive for both Xbox One and Pc?

Kinda figured that out. My xbox is not recognizing my hard drive anymore. I formatted it to my computer and then restored it back to factory settings. I would like to format it back to my xbox one. But it doesn't give me the option when I plug it in to my xbox

Sorry to hear it. If you cannot format the drive now then simply reconnect it to the your pc and format it there then reconnect it to the Xbox One to get it set up properly.

I have tried formating it both to NTFS and FAT32 and for both I it just shows up only as media.

Is it USB 2.0 or 3.0? The drive needs to be USB 3.0 compatible or it will only be seen as a media drive.

Its a 3.0 I know it worked before since it gave me a option to format it in storage settings. I just didn't choose it since I had to go somewhere.

Copy files from Mac to Xbox One external HDD ?

    Hi,

Not sure what you wanted to do here, could you elaborate?

As for external hard drives, you can't partition them for use as both external storage for games and for use with your Mac or PC. You can use an external hard drive on the Xbox One as a media drive, though.

If you format an external hard drive for Xbox One games storage, the whole drive is formatted and the file system is changed.

    Additional hard drive issues

The hard drive needs to be formatted via the onscreen option in the Xbox One menu when you plug it in. I have two Western Digital 4tb My Book external drives (I want to have plenty of storage) and for both drives I had to format them through the on screen
    options on the dashboard.
