Xbox One Elite controller not working anymore after (failed?) Xbox Accessories firmware upgrade

Hello, I am currently experiencing a really problematic issue with my Xbox One Elite controller. I have been using this device for many, many months on Windows 7 with no issues whatsoever and I absolutely love its responsiveness, overall quality and customization
capabilities.

Recently I have decided to clean install Windows 10 and, among the other things, I downloaded the Xbox Accessories app and adjust some aspects to my liking. Upon connecting the Elite Controller through USB and opening the application, I was asked to upgrade
my controller firmware, so I went ahead and let it perform the operation.

About midway through the aforementioned update, the Xbox Accessories application suddenly closed itself. Upon reopening it, the app doesn't recognize my controller anymore, simply displaying a "Connect a controller to get started" message.
Fearing the worst, I go to see if it is still detected in-game and I notice the following:

• On my Windows 10 system, no buttons are recognized. The controller is listed under Device Manager with proper name and drivers, but its inputs are not recognized;
  
• on my Windows 7 system, only the digital buttons are detected. Both Analog sticks and the LT/RT analog triggers simply do not work anymore anywhere.
  

I have also tried connecting it through the official Xbox Wireless adapter, which also worked perfectly before opening the Win10 app in question, and the same results apply.

Is there any way to recover proper functionality of this controller? I've tried everything: changing USB ports, reinstalling the Xbox Accessories app, reinstalling the drivers, but to no avail. I do not own an Xbox One console, so that option is not viable
in my case.

I'm really hoping there's still something to be done here, since the last thing I would expect is an official application being capable of bricking a $150 premium device.

Xbox 360 Elite controller stopped working on PC since last W10 update?

DFU mode is available for the first xbox one controllers, the ones without the headphone jack. All other controllers post that including the Elite controller don't use USB DFU(Device Firmware Upgrade) mode for firmware update.

The first thing would be to try and see if a firmware update is available via the Xbox Accessories app on the store, and if that fixes the issue for you.

I was updating the firmware on my xbox one controller for windows 10 (newer version), when it was interrupted. now I have a controller with corrupt firmware and no way to re flash it, as the Xbox accessories application used to update the firmware, does
not detect the controller.

I've tried playing around with the drivers, plugging it in USB, with the adapter, with batteries, without batteries, clean boot windows, updated all drivers etc.

I went to Xbox support, who tried to reinstall drivers with me. When that didn't work, Victor form xbox support sent me over to Windows support, who tried the same thing... and wasn't able to help me either. service was good and fast but didn't seem to understand
my specific problem.

Anyone know of a way to Flash the xbox controller with the most recent firmware without the use of Xbox Accessories App?

Exactly same problem with you guys. My brand new Xbox Elite Controller failed to update twice and now it kind of "brick". These are the exact descriptions for those who might concern:

- First time plugin ever, the controller vibrated a little and the XBox Accessories saw my controller but failed to update.

- Second time, unpluged and pluged in as the app tell me to, the controller still vibrate a little, the app saw my controller, still failed to update, although the process bar did progress further than first time.

- Third time unpluged and pluged in, no vibrate this time and the app did not recognise my controller. Symptoms exactly like "MY Ryunam".

After digging through countless posts about kind of similar problems with XBox One Controller (not Elite). I found one potential solution is that I will need an XBox One Console, plug my controller to it and hope it will continue to perform the update correctly.
Problem is I do not have an XBox One Console so I cannot tell if this work or not.

 

Just home from buying a new elite.

Plugged it in with Usb-cable and played for 5mins, after that I was curious of the button re-mapping. Installed the Xbox accessories and it wanted to update the controller.

After this the controller inputs are dead.

My problem sounds exactly the same as yours.

Pls solve this!

 

Hmm, what Windows version did you guys use, mine is Window 10 Anniversary Update with all update as of 1 September 2016, XBox Accessories version 100.1607.29001.0. If you use the same version as mine may be it window related problems?

Thing is if you install the XBox One Controller driver for Window 7/8/8.1 and force windows to use that driver the controller digital buttons work but not the analog sticks and the triggers.

Maybe you guys try to find someone with the XBox One and try what I suggested above? They said it should not be more that 30 minutes. Remember to remove the battery, only use the cable to connect, not wireless.

I have the same problem.

The Elite controller light turns on, but it doesn't work in games.

The app tells me that i have to "connect the controller to begin", but it's already connected by USB...

any ideas to fix it ?

I have the exact same problem, but with a regular version of the Xbox One controller.

And I was using it with no issues whatsoever up until I installed that dreaded Xbox Accessories.

But the worst of all is that this thread alone was opened a week ago and it's still unanswered...

there maybe a solution, would be to force Windows 10 to return to the driver of controller at the Windows version 8. It's only a theory, I have not tested because I do not know to make it in the practice.

The problem doesn't seem to bem on Windows. I tried using the controller in another PC with Windows 10 and it doesn't recognize it either.

I suspect that the controller firmware got corrupted in the failed updating process and that's the cause for the malfunctioning.

Is there are a way to rollback the controller firmware update?

Have anyone tried connecting the controller on a Xbox One console? I also don't own one and couldn't test that possibility. But at the moment that seems to be the best option other than taking it to technical assistance...

Good news, but first a little criticism on Microsoft costumer service.

I tried obtaining help from both Windows and Xbox support for this issue and neither of them were able to provide the slightest of help. As neither were nowhere close to knowing the issue... The closest thing to a help they got was to refer me to their instructions
to update the controller on Windows site, which was the first one I've read before resorting to them in the first place. Costumer support policy seems to be made based on the premisse that the problem is not on their product/service, but automatically on the
costumer ignorance on how to use handle the product/service.

Not to mention that Xbox Accessories app is practically entirely made for Wireless Elite controller. The only features available for standard controllers is controller update, batteries status and vibration test. Unless you own a Elite controller avoid this
app and update your controllers through an Xbox One console.

Now to the good news: I tried connecting via USB cable and updating the controller through an Xbox One console and it worked. Just tested on Windows (Control Panel) and on some games and it seems functioning properly again including the headset/headphone
function. Just on a side note, I do not own a Xbox One console nor do I know anyone close that has one, so I had to resort to a retailer and asked them if I could try connecting my controller on their console and updating it. Luckily they were thoughtful and
helpful and I could finish the process.

the problem comes from the last driver 10.0.14393.0 (15/07/2016) wich does not work and disconnects the controller.

Solution : Uninstall the driver and put an old instead.

Same here with the normal controller

So, I was messing around with the drivers

The version 6.3 of it kind of works

Some buttons work, but the triggers, the analogs, the Xbox button and the vibration doesn't work

The *** Xbox Accessories app closed automatically during the update

I think the buttons got misconfigured

I should be able to reconfigure it using the app, but it won't recognize the controller

 

Just come back from the retailer, confirm that updating with the XBox One worked, you don't even need to connect using USB, wireless work fine. The guy at the store just connect my controller (bricked one of course) to the XBox One wirelessly, and the console
immediately recognised my controller and ask me to update the firmware. Accepted it, wait for 2 or 3 minutes and done.
