Xbox one does not recognise that headset is plugged in to the controller

Hello,

I have a question regarding an issue with not being able to use my headset with xbox one. The headset and microphone was working fine for 2 months and suddenly one day last week, there was no sound coming out of it while in game and chat mode. I tested
it with a laptop and it is working completely fine - I hear music and I can use it for chat, but nothing happens when I plug it into the controller. I tested it with two other controllers that I have and the same thing happened- no sound comes out of it (this
is not a microsoft headset, just some other headset for xbox one but not MS). Also, what I noticed is that when I try to go into settings on the xbox, I am unable to select "volume" - I mean the option is there, but I can't click on it. It literally seems
like something is wrong with the hardware - the xbox itself. The easiest would be to probably re-set the controller itself to the factory settings (not the console as I would have to re-install all of the games back on I guess), but I have no idea how to
do it - is there some secret internal button on the controller that I could press to re-set it to factory settings please? Many thanks for all your help!

Thank you, I have a wireless Controller with a jack plug port, the headset is a genuine xbox one, I have plugged it in the controller but it fails to recognise it & the other headsets I have tried, my son has 2 xboxes & the headsets don't work on either
controller.

I have exactly the same problem, working fine through 3.5mm headset jack on controller, next day no sound at all through controller, only through tv. Controllers won't recognise headset plugged in. I have two controller and both the same. Headset ok on other
devices and worked fine on xbox one s prior. Just randomly stooped recognising headset plugged in.

Have followed all trouble shooting recommendations and no joy.

Hi,

If the headset is working on a laptop, but not with the three controllers I don't think resetting the controller will help.

There is a way to reset the xbox without losing all your games- but I'm not sure if this will fix your problem?

Have you tried a hard reset and cleared your cashe?

To do this: Hold down the xbox button on the console until it powers down, then remove the power cable from the back and leave for a minute before powering back up.

If that doesn't work, then you could try the reset. Here is the link to do it:

Please note, you will need to reinstall apps and sign your account back in after this- so make sure you know your passwords!

If this all fails, I think I would return the headset.

Thank you for your reply. I tried the cold-booting of the console last weekend as you described aboe and it changed nothing. Not sure where to go next with the issue.
