XBox One Controller Volume Greyed Out

3) It’s a headset designed for xbox one controller with this unique interface so there’s no way to try it out at other devices. Yet I can hear the beep when I turn the volume to the max on the headset.

Hello JZ-116,

Thanks for keeping us updated. Are you using the
stereo headset adapter? If so, you can adjust the volume using that adapter. That would probably be why that specific option is greyed out, since the adapter has options to adjust the chat mixer and the overall volume.

Aside from that, how exactly is the headset not working? Are you not able to hear anything at all? Can others hear you, or can you hear others? Headset issues are one of 3 things.

1. A hardware issue, in which case you may need to replace the controller or headset
2. A software issue, in which case updating the controller would have helped. *Are you part of the insider program?
3. A network issue, in which case we would need to troubleshoot your network hardware/settings. Have you checked your NAT type in your

   network settings?

*Please note that if you are part of the preview program, you should
report this issue through the insider hub, as well as to the

Try taking a look at the following troubleshooting articles:

• Connecting a compatible headset to Xbox One

• Xbox One controller and headset compatibility

If the problem persists:

• Try your Xbox One Stereo Headset with another device, such as a laptop, to see if the headset is working. If not, the headset will need to be replaced.

• Try your Headset on another controller, if you can. If the headset works on the second controller, try
updating the first controller again. If that fails, the
controller will need to be replaced. To order a replacement, go to the Xbox Online Service Center.

Try this out and let us know the results.

1) It’s an Xbox one headset by MS, not a third party product so I assume there shouldn’t be compatibility issue.

2) I have tried it on both our controllers and it didn’t work for neither.

3) It’s a headset designed for xbox one controller with this unique interface so there’s no way to try it out at other devices. Yet I can hear the beep when I turn the volume to the max on the headset.

The controller works fine in other aspects and it worked perfectly with headsets previously. Is it a software update problem with MS? It just doesn’t make sense for me spending 120 bucks for two new controllers which may not work neither or stop working
again down the road.

Thanks for the reply. The firmware on the controller is upto date but the volume option is still greyed out.

If you're having trouble using the mic in chat please try these steps to see if one of them helps.

1. Mute then unmute other people in your party
2. Have other people in the party mute than unmute you
3. Power cycle the console by holding the power button on it for 10 seconds till it shuts down.
4. Delete your gamertag, powercycle the console again then redownload your gamertag
