Xbox One Controller (third party rechargeable AA batteries)

Hey, I would like to know is it possible for third party rechargeable AA batteries like Energizer, Duracell, and etc, to recharge inside the controller, rather than the play and charge kit battery pack? If it's possible, is it recommended as an alternative
or I should just buy the Xbox One battery pack instead, for safety's sake.

    Thanks in advance

    :)

Ideas for a redesign in 3-4 years!

You can put a rechargeable (other than AA) battery in the controller now....by the time you buy a One there will probably be cheaper third party rechargeable batterie available as well.

  3. Battery in the controller?

Beats me. There hasn't been any new plans or announcements concerning built-in batteries in the controllers.

If you don't like buying new batteries, consider rechargeable options, like the Play and Charge Kit, actual rechargeable AA batteries (Duracell, Energizer, etc), or other third-party rechargeable packs.

Xbox One Controller (third party rechargeable AA batteries)

    Hey Jason,

To get the most out of your controller and rechargeable batteries, we recommend only charging them on their respective charging stations.

    Wireless controller voltage requirement?

Thanks Sn1p3r, that makes sense. I bring it up because of the recommendation by support not to use regular rechargeable aa batteries but regular alkaline aa batteries are ok. One of the differences I noticed was the voltage as you mentioned (1.2v for rechargeable
and 1.5v for alkaline). I'm curious if the lower voltage from the rechargeable aa's is contributing to many peoples controllers disconnecting, including my own.

I also wanted to compare the voltage of the play and charge kit to regular aa's and rechargeable aa's. Energizer also has a licsensed charging stand/kit with a battery pack to compare.

Why are regular rechargeable aa's not recommended but these other rechargeable options are? Of course for the play and charge kit it's just so Microsoft can make their money instead of a third party - or is there a technical aspect to it?

    Xbox wireless controller

    Hi,

Only battery packs designed specifically for Xbox controllers (Microsoft or third party) will charge when a USB power cable is applied.

AA batteries do not charge in the controller, whether they are rechargeable AA, Alkaline single use or cheaper Zinc-Carbon single use batteries. They won't receive any current and can not therefore 'overcharge'.

When the controller contains these types of battery, the power will only come from the device the controller is connected to via the USB cable.

Controller battery level becomes critical every time I plug in the USB cable and connect it with the console?

Check this support for charge kits and batteries .

Standard AA (LR6) batteries work in your Xbox One Wireless Controller, as do rechargeable AA (LR6) batteries. Note that
regular rechargeable batteries don’t charge in the controller. Recharge these batteries by the method recommended by the manufacturer.
