Xbox One Controller stops working Windows 10

Hello,

I am having an issue where my Xbox One S and original xbox one controllers stop working mid-game. If I alt-tab out and into the program is starts working again but quickly stops.

I have the latest firmware on the controllers according the Xbox Accessories app. While in test mode none of the buttons are registering as being pushed.

The controllers works fine on my Xbox. I’ve tried uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling, both the Xinput Controller and XBox One controller. I’ve tried replacing batteries, using without batteries, different usb ports, different cables. Nothing seems
to resolve this. I’ve changed power management options through device manager to not allow windows to turn off the device. I uninstalled the May update since i noticed this happing around then. That didn’t work either.

At this point I’m not sure what to do. Im assuming it’s a program causing the issue. I plan to reset windows and slowing start reinstalling programs to see if i can narrow it down. Unless someone has a solution I am not aware of.

No, you are part of the problem. Stop saying its a driver issue. The drivers are fine and all controllers work for other games apart from the xbox app. Please stop with this nonsense.

I was looking over some of the solutions and wanted to have you try something else.

Uninstall then reinstall the Xbox Accessory App from the store. Then try the xbox one S controller next.

If that doesn't work, try this next step:

If Windows doesn’t install the driver automatically, you can update the driver manually via Device Manager. Follow these steps:

1) On your keyboard, press Win+R (Windows logo key and R key) at the same time to invoke the run box.

2) Type devmgmt.msc and press Enter on your keyboard.

3) Expand the branch Microsoft Xbox One Controller.

4) Right-click on the expanded Microsoft Xbox One Controller and select Update driver (On lower Windows 10 versions, select Update Driver Software).

5) Click Search automatically for updated driver software. Then Windows will install the new driver for the device.

6) Check to see if you can use the Xbox One Controller properly.

Are you seeing this happen across all games, or a particular game? Do you have another controller that you could test with and see if the result is the same, or possibly borrow another one from a friend to see if that acts differently?

Also when you're playing, is it full screen, or windowed mode? That could be worth testing, if an option in your game, as sometimes, loosing focus, and the input being switched to another app might be causing the issue.
