Xbox One Controller Randomly Stopped Working On PC Overnight

Hello, I have a Windows 10 pc and I play a lot of Rocket League using an xbox one controller connected via a usb cable to my pc. I've never had connectivity problems or anything of the sort up until now. Last night the controller was working fine. When I
got off to sleep, I unplugged the usb cable and controller and stored them in my drawer of my desk. When I woke up this morning and tried to play Rocket League, I plugged in my controller and the xbox symbol light never came on. Upon checking device manager,
it showed up as an unrecognized device under usb devices. Now, after a few restarts it doesn't even show up there anymore, and won't even recognize when I plug it in. I tried every different usb port, uninstalled and reinstalled device/drivers, and restarted
my pc multiple times. My Wireless headset usb connects fine in the usb port that i usually have my controller in, so I don't think it's a problem with the usb port. The cable i use is in almost new condition, and isn't loose or anything like that. The only
way I can get the controller to work is by having batteries in it. I'm not sure why this is the case, but when I put batteries in it, I was able to connect it and it was recognized as an xbox one controller in the device manager. I'm very confused and don't
have batteries lying around to use, so if anyone could help me to fix it so I could use it with just a usb cable and no batteries it'd be much appreciated.

EDIT: Tried on another Windows 10 Laptop, with two different usb cables and still shows up as "Device Malfunctioned Not Recognized"
