Xbox One Controller on Windows 10 PC failed firmware update! The controller is now bricked!!!

Thank you for coming to the forums, I'd be happy to help.

So it seems that unfortunately the controller was 'bricked" after a failed update which will not turn on anymore. This happens due to the firmware becoming corrupted since the update failed or was interrupted.

There is a way to get this fixed but it has only been confirmed to work using an Xbox One console, which you do not have but you can try the same method on your PC to see if it works.

-Power down the PC by holding the power-button down until it powers off.

-Unplug the PC from the wall for 5 minutes to be sure everything is 100% discharged.

-Plug the controller into one of the PC's USB ports using a micro-USB cable. Make sure there is nothing else plugged into any of the USB ports. The controller should be the only thing plugged in (you won't need your mouse or keyboard for this process). Make
sure you take out the battery pack from the controller.

-Boot up your PC.

-While the PC is booting up, try to turn on the controller by pressing and holding the controller's Xbox button a few times in 2-3 second intervals until the controller turns on.

-Finally, head into the Xbox accessories app and make sure the controller updated as it usually completes the update during the reboot.

This only works if you have an Xbox One. I don't. I refuse to buy a console just to fix a controller I bought for my PC.

If you have a laptop and not a desktop PC then just disregard the keyboard and mouse part. The point of that step is just to make sure you don't have anything plugged into the USB ports besides the Xbox One controller when trying this troubleshooting step.

Just re-create those steps and hopefully the controller will turn on when the laptop is rebooting.
