    XBox One controller eating/masking inputs?

I bought a new XBox One controller (the regular wireless controller model) recently to replace the other controller I was using with my PC. I don't really notice issues with most games. However, with a game like Mega Man X, I sometimes need to press 3 separate
face buttons at the same time (specifically X, then A, then B, in that order, very quickly), and what frequently happens is that the game will only get the X and B inputs, as if the controller is set up to try and filter out what someone decided is most likely
unintended button presses. I seem to be having a similar issue with the d-pad in that, unlike some controllers that give unwanted diagonal inputs, this one sometimes doesn't give wanted diagonal inputs when rapidly changing direction. Again, it seems like
someone put a function, either in the controller firmware or the driver, to try and filter out unintended inputs, which isn't doing its job correctly.

    My questions:

Is the problem this particular controller?

If not, is this a known issue with these controllers, or even xinput devices in general?

Is there anything I can change to fix this?

I am using it with a computer running Windows 7. Switching to Windows 10 is not an answer, so please don't post anything like that. I do have a Windows 10 computer available to plug into for firmware updates. I already tried updating the controller's firmware,
but the utility said it was already up-to-date. I don't have an XBox One to plug it into at this time.

    :)

I don't have a direct answer to test the inputs on Win7. You might want to find a game that allows you to see the inputs you're pressing, like a fighting game, like Killer Instinct or something?

You said not to mention it, but I'm gonna. In Windows 10, you can use the Xbox Accessories app to see what buttons you're pressing to test those inputs. There any reason you say that's not an option?

The only other troubleshooting steps I can think of is to:

    A) Test with another controller and see if you get the same results.

    B) Test that controller on another device and see if you get the same results.

You'd want to narrow down where the problem, if there is a problem, and then troubleshoot that item specifically (game, computer, or controller).

Seriously, nobody has any answers or potential solutions? It's incredibly frustrating to fail at a task in a game because of controller problems.

    XBox One controller eating/masking inputs?

I've been trying to keep track of any issues while playing games since I first noticed an issue.

I first noticed the issue with the face buttons in Mega Man X, but that is also the only game I've played so far where I needed to press 3 buttons at once. That being said, I have noticed that I've also been seeing occasional dropped inputs when pressing
the A button in other games, though nowhere near as much as with MMX.

I've seen issues with the d-pad not registering a diagonal input in a couple of different games. What appears to be happening is that when one direction is pressed others are ignored until the button is released and re-pressed, making it impossible to quickly
    perform the desired action.

I'm not using the Xbox app on the system the controller is being used with. As I said, this is being used with Windows 7, which means no UWP apps.

I uninstalled then re-installed the driver for the controller, and it hasn't seemed to make a difference.

I am using this controller via USB cable and not a wireless link, so it isn't a wireless issue.

This could still be a software issue or incorrect settings somewhere, but I can't tell for sure. One thing I do know is that for some reason other programs can really disrupt controller inputs if they're taking up an entire CPU core, even though the other
cores are mostly idle. This tells me that controller input is not being given priority over other programs when playing games. If there is a way to fix that, that might at least remove that as the cause.

    XBox One controller eating/masking inputs?

    Hi there jrw6502,

Thanks for reaching out here in Xbox Forums. I understand there is an issue with the Xbox One controller. To help clarify:

    • This issue only happen with Mega Man X?
    • Are you using the Xbox (Beta) app?
    • Have you tried re-installed the Xbox one controller driver from your PC?

Let us know so we may further assist?

I'm pretty sure at this point the issues with the A button is a hardware failure, as the controller frequently just doesn't register an input when the button is pressed. This is really visible when you have to press two buttons at once, such as A and X,
to perform two independent actions simultaneously, and only the X input does anything. It might take several presses before the A button does anything.

Regardless of what the issue really was, I can't test anything further until I get a new controller, as this one is definitely broken. The hinge on the right trigger broke (doesn't prevent use, just makes it feel gritty), I'm having issues with the A button
as described above, the d-pad is registering double/triple inputs (makes menu item selection quite the chore, especially when the software developers make the menu reset to the start when accidentally navigating to a different menu), and the USB port won't
    hold the cable anymore.
