Xbox One - constantly changing audio settings

Hi, thanks in advanced for taking the time to reply. I have a Samsung N950 soundbar with Xbox One as my primary streaming device and I am having problems with audio in Netflix.

Netflix - To get the best audio output I need to set the audio to atmos, browse the netflix library (the atmos setting allows me to see the titles available in atmos), if I choose one of those titles happy days everything sounds great, if
i choose a title in 5.1 it only produces sound in 2.1 or perhaps stereo until i change the audio settings to dolby digital. Is there anyway to not have to keep changing settings all the time, but for Xbox to be smart enough to just produce the best sound
possible? Ie set the audio to atmos and if the title is not atmos Xbox still producing 5.1.

The process i have to go through for optimal sound is ridiculous. Any help would be appreciated.

I think it's the dolby app implementation rather than the console itself..

Although I was under the impression that the latest update to the app helped with the issue of having to change, meaning you could leave sound output at dolby atmos, and the software "downsampling" to 5.1 or whatever?

I only use headphones, and mainly for movies, since not that many games are atmos as yet...

But yeah, pain in the hoop as they say

Thanks for the reply Brad. I can confirm that dolby digital produces 5.1/7.1 the issue centres around Dolby Atmos and its ability to downsample a non atmos track.

Thanks for coming to the forums. Have you thought about setting up manual settings? This should take care of the issue.

Want you to try using manual settings--go to settings>General>Tv and display options>Video fidelity &
overscan>set display to HDMI
When asked to override your TV's recommended settings---select use manual settings.
Under settings>general>TV and display options set display to 1080p.
go to settings>general> TV and display options>video modes allow 50hz, 24hz, HDR, 4k, YCC4:2:2.
Go to settings>general>Volume and audio output under speaker audio go to Bitstream format and select
dolby digital.

First, try going to Settings > Display and Sound > In the middle, change the "HDMI Audio" setting to '5.1 uncompressed'.

If you still can't get 5.1 audio to your sound system, try buying an optical audio cable and plug that from the back of your xbox one into your sound system and change the settings on your sound system to use the 'Optical In' or a setting that chooses that
input. Don't forget to change the settings like the one above, but under "Optical Audio" choose "Bitstream Out" and change "Bitstream Format" to "DTS Digital Surround." The optical audio port is right between the HDMI in and out ports.
