Xbox One console attempting to charge me for Games With Gold

I'm having an issue where my Xbox One console is attempting to charge me the current price for previous Games with Gold games which I redeemed.

For the past few Games With Gold offerings I have been redeeming the Xbox One games using the Xbox Smart Glass app on an iOS device, in accordance with the process outlined on the Games with Gold for Xbox FAQ <

“Mobile: If you download the Xbox One SmartGlass app, simply go to the Store and then page right. The Games with Gold titles will be available for redemption there. When you select a game, it’ll be stored in your account and ready for download when you sign
in to your console.”

This seemed to be working successfully with the Smart Glass app indicating that the game had been redeemed and was available to play on an Xbox One console - under the ‘Overview’ heading it has the option bolded in green of “Play on Xbox One”. However, recently
upon connecting the Xbox One console to the internet I was unable to download these offerings.

When I attempt to download the game on the Xbox One console which is signed in to the same Xbox Live Gold account, it attempts to charge me the current price for the game despite this game having already been redeemed. Using the “Play on Xbox One” on the
SmartGlass app achieves the same result on the Xbox One console.

An example of this issue can be seen with the game Outland (offered during December 1 - 15). I can provide you with a screen shot from the Smart Glass app which indicates that the game has been redeemed and is available to play on Xbox One console now and
a second screen shot of the Games Store on the Xbox One console attempting to charge the current price for the game.

There are other games beyond Outland which I am also experiencing this issue with and I can provide a more comprehensive list if required, but I had hope that there is an easy solution to this.

360 Games With Gold On Xbox One Help

For 360 games with gold or regular paid games your need to have a valid payment option on file to purchase from the website

This doesn't affect the price so it won't charge for games with gold

You can only avoid this with a 360 console

And no xbox one cannot be used since it only uses xbox one marketplace

 

Lame games with gold

Games with gold on xbox one has always stated 1 game per month. You arent paying for games with gold this is an extra to your gold membership with no extra charge.

There are four games which I have found I am experiencing this issue with, these are:

Outland (available through Games With Gold promotion on 1 December 2016)

Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon (16 Nov 16)

The Secret of Monkey Island: SE (1 Nov 16)

I Am Alive (16 Oct 16)

 

that's because you didn't do it correctly

You are trying to repurchase the games

Not download them

When you queue the Games you must download it from the game hub not the store

It would be available in the ready to install section not the store

Also it should be noted in order to download 360 Games with gold you need to have an payment option on file in order to purchase them unless done thru am Xbox 360

I cannot find the "game hub" that you refer to. I can find the 'My games & apps' from the 'Home' screen on the dashboard. Going into this and there is a subheading of 'Queued' where items that are purchased or redownloaded from the Store go. The four games
don't appear there.

With other items that I already have purchased, I can find these in the Store and set them to redownload without repurchasing them from the Store.

I can confirm that I do have a payment option on file and it is working as I purchased a game from the Store two days ago.

 

Spoke to Bing C, a Microsoft Answer Tech, on the Chat With Microsoft today for 48 minutes (reference [Mod Removed]). The four games are not registered on my account as having been redeemed or previously purchased. It would seem that the
Xbox iOS app is not registering these properly. It was also identified that there seems to be some issue with my account where the Games With Gold redeemed games are not being recorded in my Order History - apparently they should be recorded in the purchases
as a $0.00 price. Unable to explain with the Xbox iOS app shows the games are having been redeemed though... I have requested that the case be reviewed by the manager to study the issue further as whilst I don't particularly care about these four games, my
concern is that it may be happening to others or may occur again in the future to me for a game I do care about.

Reading through all this, it sounds like you tried to "purchase" the Games with Gold but for whatever reason, the purchase did not go through. Meaning that your account does not have the licenses for the games in question. Unfortunately, there is no way
for us to assist with that as we are unable to append licenses retroactively or alter the prices of games.

Do note that if you feel the iOS app is causing errors, do note that you can also "purchase" the Games with Gold games via the website and the console. It's definitely worth double checking your purchases after you make them to be sure that everything worked
correctly.
